going lipo for my crawler...
I have a wheelie king based crawler I built a few years ago:
tube chassis 540 brushed motor Rooster ESC I've been running *really* old nicd batteries I had laying around, but it's time to go with something form this century. My esc is limited to 2s, so I'm thinking somewhere in the range of a 2500-3000 mAh is good, but... here's my question: What's a decent "c" rating for the battery? I can't imagine I'd need anything higher than 25 or 30c for my crawler, since it's geared down and slow. Also, what about getting one with a hard case? is that necessary? right now I have my nicd's mounted on the front axle, but I don't really have a problem hitting anything on it (too often).

You'll be fine with around 25-30C, it won't draw that much even under stall current. Hard cases are basically just for extra durability in other higher speed cars, a soft case in this application is fine. If you're concerned with durability, you could make a lexan guard for it.
