Just did a rebuild on my EXI 450 pro carbon by watching these videos. My only question is what is the stock esc size that comes with the super combo trex. My heli is having to be rebuilt due to the esc going out mid flip. But anywho thanks Bob and keep up the awesome work.

Thanks bob!

I "built" a trex 450 dfc over the last 2 days. I use quotes because theres still a bit of electrical work and 3gx programming to still do. Nccraig has been helping me a huge amount but your videos were a HUGE help to me.

You are a gifted teacher and have been quite selfless in the time you have dedicated to sending these prof lessons over the web ether. Your karmic currency, if there is such a thing, should be very high.

Kudos to you sir!

It depends on the servo you are using. Mount it so that the ball on the servo arm is lined up with the elevator ball link on the swash. Get this geometry correct no matter what you have to do - try the ball on both sides of the arm, servo in both locations, etc. Try what the manual shows first, but if it doesn't line up straight, try it the other way. Same with the front servos.

Default Tail Blade Balance

I need help in balancing the tail blade of my pro. The heli is absolutely vibe free until I install the blades, at which time she vibrates at high throttle.

Appreciate your help.

If you are positive that the blades are balanced with respect to each other, check the length from the holes to the tips and make sure that's the same also. Also check your blade grips and make sure they are on tight. Don't tighten the tail blades all the way down, they should be allowed to flop a bit.

Default main motor gear question

Hello all,
These videos are fantastic. I'm building a 450 pro V2 clone from a VCTRC kit that I purchased on ebay. The manual says that the main gear should be 14T. The main gear that I got in the kit is 11T. The splines on this gear are twisted.

I have a turnigy 2627-3800 motor that I bought for this heli. It comes with a 15T straight spline gear. Can I use this gear?

The 11T gear that came with the kit is much larger than the shaft of the 2627-3800 motor, so I obviously that combination is not going to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Get an app called Flip4mac. Allows you to view or convert to a host of mac formats and includes presets for various devices.

Then I got a PM from Helifreak user Helismith who works for Helihobby.com and he asked if I wanted to do a build video on the 450 Pro sponsored by Helihobby... Well heck yea!

Helihobby has come a long way in the last year and is now one of the best online retailers out there! When they asked me I was honored and am glad to be doing this build series for them. Major props Helihobby.com and thanks Helismith for asking man!

UPDATE! 2/1/2011 - Servo Installation warning! You can bind up the servos if you are not careful when mounting them. Especially with the Hitec 65MG or 5065MG.

OK on with more vids.

First up is how to setup the tail and GP750 gyro STOCK per the manual.

Video Link ->Setting up the tail and GP750 Gyro stock per the manual (100 Megs)

OK as I said while trying to get the tail setup there was something I just did not like about the tail geometry. We all know it flys STOCK but I think things can be improved especially for guys wanting to setup rate mode flying. So with that I did a bunch of vids to explain what I mean, show other helis tail geometry, and finally my mod with a flying testimonial.

OK so here is a little discussion on tail geometry and why things should be 90/90 etc.
Video Link -> Tail geometry and what it's about and why do I care? (61 Megs)

OK with that basics, what do other helis look like? I went to the field and looked an MANY other helis and will show you.
Video Link -> The proof... what do other helis look like and why is the tail odd with the Pro? (50 Megs)

OK so here is my mod to fix it. You don't have to do this as we all know the heli flys stock but for rate mode flying setup I see NO other way! As far as I can tell it is impossible to setup rate mode without binding. Well I found a solution.
Video Link -> Simple Tail mod! Flip the grips! (70 Megs)

Finally since my heli is not flying yet, Kevin (Fireup) tested the mod this last weekend. Looked good to me!

OK now that all the tail stuff is out of the way, here are the fianl videos!

Default tail issue

followed your vid on setting up with stock gyro and servo, but I have a gp780 and ds520 servo, it has be centered perfectly ( 0 sub trim needed) the hh mode moves in the correct direction when I push the tail and back again when I reverse when there is no power. when I power up the heli it's always in the centre, limits set just right and endpoints on tx.
trouble is as soon as I apply power to lift off it spins counterclockwise, the servo is moving the right direction to compensate but it's not enough had it in a jig and it is moving to the limit ok, this one is puzzling me???

Sounds like you have the gyro reversed, and what you're saying about it moving the right way is incorrect. The tail pushes toward the leading edges - check it again, when the tail moves left, the leading edges of the blades should move right. It's easy to get that backwards. If that's the case, you need to reverse the gyro direction, NOT the rudder direction in the radio.

Question Motor install

Finished watching all videos and I must have missed where the motor was installed. I built in sequence with the videos and servos are in way unless the motor mount is removed, then I'm not sure the 1mm spacing from gear to pinion will be there. Any advise...
