Trex 550e DFC v3 - what are the recommended Gov RPM rates?
Hello,
I have purchased the above kit. I have made no upgrades. ( I am using the standard main-gear, motor, blades, 11T pinion and Castle ESC that came with the kit.) I am using a 6S 5000mah batteries Does anyone know what RPMs Align recommends for each of the flight modes (stock, out of the box) when using the Castle Talon 90 ESC (which is also supplied with the kit) in Gov mode? Normal: U1: U2: Cheers!

Quote:
U1: 2100 U2: 2250-2300 This is assuming you have the 520mm blades. If you have the 550 blades Normal: 1850-1950 U1:2000 U2:2100-2150 All this is with Stock Pinion 11T Slant

I am running the 11t and put a few flights on with the governor enabled on a Castle 100 and 520 blades.
2275 is the max setting without a warning. I had this set on idle up 1. It provides for a smooth performer. Well suited for big air. I did a custom battery and went to 2375 for idle up 2. It felt more responsive with the 100 more rpms and seemed pretty easy on the batteries as well. For hard 3d I think I'll need to go to a 12t pinion or just fly with the 11t at 100 flat throttle curve.

I just got this back from align HQ via email.
Sir Thank you for choosing Align! When choosing a head speed it comes down to personal preference. With the stock 11t pinon you will be capped at 2250-2275 running governor mode. Which is good for sport flying. If your flying style is 3D/hard 3D I recommend a higher head speed. To increase the head you will need a 12t pinon. With the 12t pinion you may achieve head speeds up to 2450-2480. Once again it depends on the pilots personal preference.

Thanks for sharing and I completely agree. The 11t is best for sport - light 3D performance.
The 12t opens up governor use for harder 3D flights if one prefers not to run throttle curves. Thanks again and give us a flight report.

Can someone tell me which 12T would fit on the stock 600mx motor?? I also wanted to upgrade from 11T for higher head speeds. By the way how much loss in flight time can be expected if running on 2400 hs?

This one.
http://www.helidirect.com/align-moto...0e-p-21058.hdx Also if you are going to use that setup i recommend use at lease a 45C battery. Higher is better.

Around 4 minutes medium to hard 3D on a 12T pinion.

Can this be made into a sticky thread? It's very helpful for 550 owners looking into using governor mode.

Trex 550e DFC v3 - what are the recommended Gov RPM rates?
I've just got a 12t pinion and now using governor after a year of flying 95% flat curves with the 11t pinion
The governor has really livened the Heli up and given it a new lease of life Normal: 2000 IU1: 2300 IU2: 2480 Getting 4:30mins without stressing the packs too much I'd recommend this setup to anyone wanting more poke from their 550dfc |

Hey Mahmood, yeah this thread is pretty old. It reminds me of how much flying I was doing back then and before deciding to buy a home.
I do forget a lot of these numbers and have since moved to a vbar governor on my Trex 550 DFC. It's my understanding that the Castle Governor likes to give a fair amount of headroom, and perhaps even more than is really needed. The reason for this is that if you increase the HS too much there won't be enough reserve to maintain that HS in all conditions and especially as you near the end of the flight where your voltage begins to drop. For a lot of people this really isn't the worst problem to have as you are probably slowing down and getting ready to land anyway. I think you can run pretty close to 2450 RPM with the stock pinion if memory serves me correctly, but going over that might lead to less than optimal flights or flights that would be more similar to ungoverned flat curves, where the HS constantly decreases as you fly. A lot of the demand you put on your battery will depend on your personal flying style. If you're doing hard 3D and power moves like rainbows... your packs could get pretty puffy if you crank up the HS too much. It would also depend on the quality of the 6S pack and capacity. If you want I can look into it more or point you to a good HS calculator, but I'm guessing someone with more experience will step in here to give you the answer you need.

Thankyou so much bro. Highly appreciated all your points:
I am using 5000mah lipo 60c and one 50c lipo. Gensace and lion power. I heard that with 12t pinion you can get slighlty more HS around 100rom more. No this info is quiet sufficient for me. I havent learn hard 3d yet. Just loops, rolls and some inverted. Will fly more and see how it goes |
