Default 3gx - Tail goes to center when releasing rudder input - Heading Hold Set-up issue?

I have set up my 3gx for my Align 500 DFC completely. I have not flown it yet... it's still on the bench. However, I noticed that when the rudder is pushed all the way right on my DX8, when I remove the stick input the tail servo will automatically return the tail to center. I compared this to the 3gx set-up on my 600N and the tail will not automatically return to center when the rudder stick input is released. It will stay at the last position of input.

Does this mean on the 500 DFC the tail is in rate mode instead of heading hold mode? The DX8 transmitter gyro is set to AUX2 and sw: F MODE. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

My buddies Goblin 500 and Goblin 700 with Futaba 8FG is doing the exact same thing in relation to the tail returning to center once rudder input is released on the radio.

My 500 Pro DFC does the same thing. I am pretty sure that you want it to go back to center after you release from left to right. At least I know I would. My heli flies great and its doing the same thing. And also I am using the DX7s.

Hi AnthonyV,
welcome in the "Club". That´s what I´ve analyzed too. Tail slider moves the "normal" way ´til 3GX Firmware V2.1. From V3.0 on it runs like You´ve described, here are the Videos I´ve taken this week:

V2.0 (left) and V4.0 (right Video button, done by me) But try it and move the tail in heading hold mode to the left or right and leave it there. You´ll see that the tail slider will stay at the left or right Limit. In normal mode the tail slider will go back into middle Position.

I just wanted to reply with some further information regarding everything. In the 3gx, the main light should be green which indicates heading hold mode.

So in regards to the rudder movement... we were out at the local club and asked a few of the other members about the issue. Long story short, if you apply right rudder slowly to maximum travel then release the stick to center slowly, the rudder servo will stay in position. If you release the stick quickly, some heli's will allow the rudder servo to center. So the good news is that the heli is in fact heading hold mode. We tried this on all 3 heli's running 3gx and it in fact stayed in position when input was released slowly.

Why some heli's go to center when input is released quickly is still yet to be figured out

If you up the rudder limits to speed up your piros the slider may partially return to center even in HH. Example, rudder limits set to 80, perform rudder setup and give full right and left rudder and then up the limits to 110 and recheck. I've noticed this before but haven't experimented with binding with limits up and then running setup. It has no ill effect.
