Default Pyro 800 does not run on scorpion 160A why ?

I have this set up pyro 800 with a scorpion 160A and it shut down every time when I run it throttle more than 65% . It is a 14S battery on my new mini copter diablo . I can't figure out why since the scorpion esc automatic recognize the motor and I have it set up on safe mode . Can some one have the same set up show me how to get this set up work ? Thanks

I am not sure if i have seen anyone on here with that issue. I would ask in the scorpion esc forums. I would be willing to bet its not an issue with the motor.

+1 Its possible the esc is not capable of supporting a 14 pole motor and exceeding the max rpm limit of the speed control. I would shoot scorpion a email.

14 magnetic poles, 480KV, 14S.. That are up to 7 * 14 * 4.2 * 480 = 197,568 field revolutions per second.

What is the limit of the Scorpion ESC?

And now let's on top assume the PYRO has 1..2 stator laminations less because ridge during punching, KV goes up..

Tom I couldn't find anything on Scorpions site regarding the max limit. Perhaps the OP will enlighten us after contacting scorpion.

Spoke with Georges this afternoon and he confirmed the ESC should be ok with a 14 pole motor up to around 480kv so I would check all you connections and make sure they are good.

Then check the motor as per this vid and go from there.

Motor insulation - How to check your motor! (Blowing ESC reason #1) (3 min 45 sec)

Could it be that if it is set up on safe mode thats the issue?? I don't quite know what safe mode is on them but if it limits the power or hits a certain level then it shuts down???

Hmm..
Did Georges confirm the 14p/480kv for 14S also?

It could be easily also 520kv and more, that depends on the real amount of iron in the stator package.

I could imagine that 200k+ revos/sec are already a bit borderline.

(Could ask Georges directly but you got in contact to him on that already.)

Think he should try with 12S, just to know. OK, you're right, another limit could be the cause.. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the Scorpions. The guys in the Scorpion board should know. As though someone has to be, has ever operated a 500kv 14-pole on 14S..

It is surprising that a scorpion esc cant handle 200k phase changes. Guess your option is to then get a kosmik. I would trust it more than i would a scorpion esc anyway. They have a pretty terrible track record.

Have you updated to the latest firmware, it fixes many out of sync issues.
