Century 600 Electric / Nitro Scale Mechanics
Has anyone built one of these Century 600 Scale Electric / Nitro Scale Mechanics platforms lately? I would especially like to hear how the electric conversion worked out for you if you went that route and what motor and battery combo you used as well as if you utilized the clutch or direct gearing set up.
Overall I'm pretty happy with my Swift Nx and have owned a couple Hawk Sports back in the nitro days. Parts still seem to be plentiful for the 50 / 600 size Century helis. The 600 mechanics seem to be just as versatile as the Swift when it comes to what power combination you decide to use. I have never built those exact mechanics, but I have assisted a few with theirs. They seem to be a longer and improved version of your old Hawk Sport that used the wire-in-tube tail drive which is so easy to modify in length for fitment into various length 50 sized scale fuselage. They also have some improvements to better handle the 600mm blades used in 50 sized helix, such as the 6mm center spindle system with thrust bearings and a more rigid 4mm flybar system.
These mechanics are not designed to take all of the high forces that are needed today for high rotor speeds and high power systems we now for extreme 3D flying (that is what their current E640 and N640's are designed for). They are designed specifically for scale flying that uses much lower head speeds and are not subjective to the high G forces experienced in extreme 3D flying. As for electric, some I know have used the clutch and others have used the direct pinion installation. This was more a function of the ESC they used and how slow/fast they would spool up. For scale, the slower the spool up, the better it sounds relative to the real ones.
