Default Trex 450 SEV2 upgrades.

I am upgrading my SE V2 to the DFC Head with the Tarot ZXY flybarless unit. A few questions regarding this upgrade:

1) What main shafts will I use?
2) Will I need to upgrade the swash plate?
3) This is my first flybarless system; Is the Tarot unit all I will need?
4) Will I need to upgrade to the torque tube unit?

Thanks in advance. This stuff has changed quite a bit in the few years I have been away from it.

I did mine with the align dfc head upgrade on mine. On the dfc main shaft that came with it, I ground the ridge off the shaft so I could use the lock collar with out having to buy another main shaft. Where the ridge is ground off it sits inside the bearing.

You don't need to do a torque tube upgrade on it, in fact many do an upgrade to belt because they are more forgiving, less parts, and less vibes.

Past that you will need a fbl controller, sats and probably a bec or an esc with a good esc.

Better servos, esc, and motor are a big improvement if you plan on doing any sort of 3d past mild.

Post your electronics, radio, ESC, servos, motor...etc
DFC is not what you want, unless you don't crash that much

This
http://gogo-rc.com/store/index.php?r...product_id=541

It uses same align 450pro spindle

And
http://gogo-rc.com/store/index.php?r...product_id=562

You can use 450pro main shaft or sev2 with the collar

Yes your right

They are different lengths. The DFC shaft being the shorter of the two

Align DFC shaft 112mm
Align Standard shaft 118mm

If you try to use the longer FB shaft it will push the FBL head up to high and will cause flight problems.

Swash FBL or FB are identical and good to go

The non DFC tarot head is nice, and while saving servos (and maybe more expensive parts) vs a DFC, I still don't think it is the way to go. There are more parts, and they are much harder to come by. When a non DFC head gets wonky, it can be hard to find what is causing the issue. I personally love the cheap Gartt heads.

At $16, you can just yank them and replace with another one instead of ripping your hair out trying to find what is causing vibes or slop. If you are a masochist and want to replace individual parts, they are easily found at local hobby shops since it is a clone of the Align V1 DFC head.

Another great option is the Tarot Split lock head, but its twice the price of the Gartt. I haven't crashed one enough to say it is definitely more durable than the Gartt, but it certainly seems to be higher quality.

As far as servo issues go, a set of break away servo horns takes care of any DFC related crash issues.

Last but not least, OP, think hard about the ZYX FBL controller. They do work well for some, but others have lots of trouble. They do not have built in vibration logging and the default parameters leave a bit to be desired. You will need to spend a considerable amount of time tuning. You could find a used Vbar for about $70, or go with a new Ikon with bailout for just a bit more. It all depends on what your time is worth.

This guy is right.

Me on a FB to FBL build I would go with 450L

But it is a hard choice dumping all the parts you have just to convert a heli to FbL or the better 450L design Heli.
FYI
I like/prefer Align but Align does not sell Helicopter Main Frames

Lol...you opened up pandora's box with the rekit option.

The Assaults are good options, but there are others!
