Dx6i with (FBL system) on a 500 and Separate BEC?
I am looking to build a T-rex 500 and I have a Dx6i. I have two questions. Can I use a separtate bec like a (CC BEC PRO) with one of these fbl units below using the dx6i. A 7 channel radio is usually what's need for a 500.

That's exactly what I use on a 500esp with ZYX. Don't like the CC BEC though.

I use a 6200 with 1 sat. I haven't had a range issue with DX6i and full range Rx's/sats (I can get +800 meters FPV with no glitches...although I wouldn't recommend it). So no issues for close flying a heli. With that said, just watch out for reflections (don't stand near buildings/walls) and keep line of site. I have had issues with this and the park flyer rx's. Now I'm never close to a building when I fly...was a bad habit I had anyway (lazy).
CC BEC's are over spec'ed and if you look at the fine print it says so...hence they market it saying it will do more than it does under typical customer usage. And to program it you need to order their programmer, not only another expense but a pia to program imo.

The BEC doesn't have to be compatible with the ESC because they work in parallel. You just don't use the BEC output from the ESC and use the output from the BEC instead. You just wire them both in parallel with the flight battery. I have the CC BEC pro on my 500 and it works fine and it doesn't cost a fortune. You can order the CastleLink programming dongle for $10 from Castle with the coupon they give you. The only setting you have to make is the output voltage as I recall.
The Western Robotics BEC is recommended highly by people like Bert Kammerer, but it's expensive! No reason you need a 7th channel for a 500. I'm flying mine with a DX6i with no problems. |
