Marvel Craft A109S on TRex 600

My 600 size BO105 had this same issue at first, it was tail heavy even with (2) 3300mah batteries up front. It was not fun like that, and trying to trim it to work doesn't seem to be the best way to fix it. Once I got my COG fixed and the heli balanced, it was a huge improvement and well worth the effort to get more weight up front. I would get it balanced rather than trying to trim it.

Maj - what do you suspect your final Auw and flight times will be?

You don't want a tail heavy model. That is different than the tail hanging low due to the placement of the mechanics. Level means level with the blades. Unfortunately on mine, it only has a 1-2 degree forward tilt on the mechanics so while CG is correct (flies well), the position of the heli in the air isn't as scale like as it could be.

I'm looking about about 16 pounds AUW and shooting for 8-9 minute flights. I fly very conservatively though, with lots of hovering right now, so it's a little shorter.

I wouldn't add too much weight to the 500 size model, just modify the battery tray so that the battery can be lowered down and moved forward. Doing that solved my COG problems and makes the 500 a nice flyer.

Awesome. Ok thanks maj and blade. So when i check cg by lifting under blade grips,do i check mainly the level of blades not worry about tail dipping so much. . Ok i will check that 500 thread thanks blade. Flew today in rochester ny was nice while on the road..at the northampton park..grest group . Ok thanks.

Some good news, I wound up getting an officer slot with the Air National Guard. Not a pilot, but a 2nd LT is the next best thing! Been busy with that lately.

I have worked all this weekend and tonight on the heli though and it's all coming together. I have just the pitot's and antenna to mount and then I'll get some proper photos of it up. Man, it looks cool!

Wow, it's been a while since I have sat down and updated this thread. Thanks to those of you tuning back in and sorry for taking so long!

Personal update, I am now a 2Lt in the North Carolina Air National Guard and finally home again. It was a tough road, but more than worth it. I'm a Force Support Officer and headed back to training in Jan or Apr. Finished second in my OTS class, so not too shabby! Very proud to be an officer and an Airman.

Heli wise, my project is complete! I finished up the interior with the self adhesive carpet and got everything in. The panels turned out awesome, thanks to Faye. The pilot figure is a tad large, but she fits good enough for my first true scale attempt. I may add some antenna detail later on, but I'm happy as it is and want to fly it more than I do now.

She flies pretty well, but could be better. I still have some tuning with the SK to do but just haven't had the time. I finally went to a local fly in and stretched its legs for the first time. A couple of nice circuits and some approaches. I had only one instance where it started to sink and it took a lot of pitch to stop it! All the mechanics and electronics seem to be performing well (knock on wood) and once I fine tune the SK, mainly the tail, I'll be flying more comfortably.

The first pic is at the fly in next to Condor's bell. Great guy, buy the way! All the others are from a photo shoot at Duke Energy's hanger with their A109E, the only one registered in NC! Thanks to them for letting me come in and play around. Even did a demo flight on the ramp at CLT!

Hey Bud nice job on the scale looks great and flies smooth it looks like ,, real nice...
finally flew 2-3 flights on my lil 500 .. was fun,, flipped it once and then rolled it once and then did a big loop,, was kool .. got vid i think on yout ube i try to post it here when get a chance take care.. congrats on your LT etc..

That`s one really nice build and lots of bling for good measure. I see that you are using a separate sequencer and I just got a few lessons with the built-in sequencer in my DX18. It would have made short work of the gear on your helicopter. I hope to get some flying in soon, I am getting cabin fever, lol. Take care.

Great job on the build!!! I just received my Marvelcraft A109 fuse this afternoon and plan to put Trex 700e mechanics in it, so this thread has been really informative and timely!
