For 3S I will set the limit by setting the discharge to 5A on the first dialog. I might still set the hard limits to 12V and 5A on the second dialog when discharging 3S lipos but I think as long as you set it to 5A on the first dialog you should be OK even if the hard limits are set higher.

Once I actually try this out I might get more clarity on how it actually works. Good thing I have a test lipo that I could use.

Well.... in that case, here is my discharger. A modest 190 watts. But it was basically free since it was included in the charger. Plus the storage cycle operates in CC/CV mode so the discharger nails storage voltage every time. No bounce back after the load is lifted. Plus the logging is built-in in case you want to graph your pack's discharge performance.

That being said, I personally would not use the built-in dischargers on any other charger, except the Powerlabs. The Powerlabs may be a little larger, but the heatsink is sized to take it. During the Dual Powerlab beta, I needed to cycle packs over and over and over. It rained most of the time, so my helicopters were no help. But the discharger never let me down and continues to work great today. In fact I just finished discharging some of my son's packs for his truck at 10 amps, done in 10m 30s.

So 2 12 volt car bulbs in series with a meter will do a 5s battery?

Also Gregor have you added fuses to those green connector leads or is that stock? Nice case.

The Castle connectors are 6.5mm bullets vs the EC5 5.5mm. So they are larger with a higher current rating. When connecting and disconnecting, there is no resistance from the housing the with the EC5. So you can feel it if they become loose. However, when they are new, the bullets are very tight and it makes the connector very hard to disconnect. Also because of the larger bullet, the housing is a bit larger than the EC5s.

Thanks. I assembled the cables using two 40 amp fuses, and the longer 4mm bullets. The fuses are covered in clear heat shrink.

ok so let me ask you this, is it worth switching over to castle plugs in your opinion? would you buy them again? or would you have just stuck with ec5?

That depends on application as well as your experiences with the EC5s. If the EC5s are working fine for you and are operated within their spec (120 amps) then the switch may not be all that beneficial.

If you had issues with the EC5s or needed a higher current rated connector, then they might help. If your only issue with the EC5s is they are hard to disconnect, then the Castles are not going to address that concern.
