Default 10A brushed ESC question

Guys I'm sure it's been talked about before, but went back and looked and couldn't find it.

I'm trying to run a 10A Hobbyking brushed ESC for controlling brightness with AUX3 dial on DX8. I removed red wire on receiver end as to not power AR7200. I hooked up power into ESC from balance lead (3s). I connected LEDs to red and black on output side of ESC. I also programmed ESC by connecting to an old motor so I know that switch (AUX3) works. Runs motor perfectly.

However, lights flash a few times when turning knob up and then they go out? Am I supposed to do something with the yellow (3rd wire) on the ESC? Or am I doing something else wrong?

Thanks all!

Connect the rx ground to the light battery ground.

SamIam, thanks for the response, but I'm a little "slow". Not quite sure how to attach receiver ground to light ground?
Thanks

A brushed ESC should only have two output wires. Are you sure you are not using a brushless ESC?
