Thumbs up Eagle Tree Wireless

Well, had a little warmish weather yesterday (+6 C) so I was able to start up the ol' Wren/Pred and see if I had the wireless Eagle Tree setup correctly.

In a word... REALLY COOL.

OK... while I don't plan on watching the wireless dash board while I fly, the info is very interesting, and I think helpful during the start-up process and the cool down.

I'm monitoring the following

Screen One:
Ecu Pak voltage | Signal Stength
RX Pak Voltage | Pump Voltage

Screen Two:
Turbine RPM | Throttle %
HS RPM | Turbine Temp

Screen Three:
ECU Status

Screen Three has the coolest info, shows the starting sequence as the turbine spools up... ie. glow test, ignition, fuel ramp etc.

Once started I can flick to Screen two, watch the turbine settle... the rpm goes to 50,000rpm then settle down to a nice 45000 rpm once stabilized. Interesting to note, all this happens with the throttle trim in the middle. The throttle is 10% and the RPM is 45,000. Putting the throttle trim all the way up (flight idle), brings the rpm up to 50,000 ish and the throttle closer to 12%.

For this test I was particularly interested in the HS. Wanted to make sure I have the magnet aligned with the sensor (I'll take a few pics of my custom mounting bracket later and post here) ... and yes. It was and it worked great.

Also, the temp on screen two showed that if you accidentally kill the engine (I did this when I was playing with the throttle trim, I brought it down below mid-point) the cooling cycles continues and does not allow you to restart the engine until the temp is below 100F.

Screen One:
Not as interesting... ok. Pak volt is important, but it didn't change while I tested the new eagle tree. But I saw my voltage on the RX pak was 6.07 volts (I'm running 6v servos) and the ecu pak is 8v.

Those are the only sensors I'm running, and I think all the info I need. I have alarms setup on the packs for voltage. if they go below a certain point alarms go off. And I'll setup an alarm for min HS (200 rpm Bob?) and min. Turbine RPM (A mid-flight flame out).

Then I think I'm all done. I was able to mount everything in such a way that it's out of the way and no messy nest of wires (important to me).

Overall? I think it was worth the $350 I paid for it.

Deron

Now you can show the "governess" of the wren. Just pull the hs vrs turbine rpm vrs throttle and you will see how well the two stage performs.

I was attempting to do that but ran out of time.:o

nice going.

and yes it is worth the money...... especially your gloat

Deron,

Most of what you posted about settings are normal with the exception of flight idle. Mine idles at 42,000 and flight idle is around 70,000.

The behaviour of your cool down is also normal as the Fadec will bring it down to 100C, If you try to start it and it's above 100C then it will coll it down to 100C then begin the start sequence.

Hi Lou,
thanks... I didn't think there were any problems. I was just describing the "coolness" of this new toy. I'm something of a gadget freak.

very Interesting Derron,

You like to know how things work! this tool certianly gives an incite into that hidden world...

Nice read... is there any chance you could put up some screen shots,

If you dont know how to do it, ( apologies if you do)
  1. Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard. It may be labeled [PrtScn].
  2. Open an image editing program, such as Microsoft Paint.
  3. Go to the Edit menu and choose Paste.
  4. If prompted to enlarge the image, choose Yes.
  5. Optional: Use your image editor's crop tool to crop out unnecessary portions of the screen shot.
  6. Go to the File Menu and choose Save As.
  7. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the image.
  8. Type a file name for the image.
  9. Select a file type.
  10. Click the Save button.
Once saved as a JPEG, you can upload as normal...

i would be interested in seeing the screen info..

I thought that you Lads might like to know about screens 6 and 7 on the Eagle Tree Wireless system.
These monitor the state of the pilots health and awareness.
Screen 6 has a blood pressure readout and heart rate monitor, there is also a blood sugar level alarm, for endurance flying.
Screen 7 has a brainwave pattern plotter for frequent 3D fliers a pants moisture detector for infrequent 3D fliers and new to turbine pilots.

Shhhh Deron!!! Stop talking so loud about this thingy. My wallet is whispering nefarious things to me about Seagulls and Eagletrees and I still need to buy electronics and support gear for the new oil burner!

Bell Bloke, you forgot to mention screen 8 which can only be reached with the secret combination of button presses.

This screen shows the state of your finances and the steady decline of funds as the addiction of the kero takes a firmer grip.

Hi Matt, I'll give her a try. I don't connect it to a laptop when running it. But I can do so after wards. I was speaking of the wireless dashboard, but it would be interesting to see how this data is represented on the laptop software.

OH... got it Yeah, I was real lucky to find it. He only had 3 at the time. I can't understand how he does it. But it's the real deal.

I know what you mean. There is an endless number of toys you can buy for these babies. No wonder this is a growing.
