Is the pinion support a must do for this conversion?
All I have is plastic Protos, and I would love to stretch one of them, but if it needs the pinion support, I'm outta luck.

SAB 440mm blades
@Corrado, have you tried these SAB 440mm blades at all?

The Grip is 12mm, so they wont fit the Protos.
If better performance is worth the risk of hitting the tailrotor is another question... |

I had the stretch kit in mind, of course. I wonder what heli they had in mind when they designed the 440mm blades. It's a shame they won't fit the Protos grips. They might have made a nice compromise between the 425mm and 470mm blades. The 470mm blades add a lot of stability and hang-time but the flip/roll rate is not as quick as with 425mm blades.

I also have FBL head for Protos made by LaHeli. It's the head for Sniper II actually but fits and works on Protos as well.
http://www.laheli.com/web/product.ph...%20Sniper%20II This head has 12mm main blades grips This is the head I'm taling about... |

Interesting, but it looks like you have the Radix 425mm blades there, which have 10mm roots. Any reason to use the Sniper2 head in preference to the stock Protos head with 10mm grips?
Actually I do have a Sniper2 but mine has a blue head. How come yours is silver?

I had to use a lot of spacers with the Radix blades :/
The head is few cm lower so the CG is also lower which I really like. On the other hand I like MSH FBL head as well The MSH FBL conversion kit is the best option so I wouldn't buy anything else nowadays... This head could be ordered in different colors. Blue, black,... and mine brushed aluminium... |

I'm almost sure the 440mm blades would hit the tail rotor.
A while ago, I had a loose spindle bolt by some millimiters, and the tail blade choped the tip of the main SAB blade. Knowing this, I would advise to push the tail as backwards as you can...

Errm, in case you hadn't realized, the topic of this thread is about the 470 blade stretch kit, i.e. longer boom.

On the other hand the Scorpion motor is in the kit from now on so I wouldn't bother with a motor anymore. Tareq Alsaadi flyes the Scorpion 880KV on his Protos and everyone seen his videos! I would maybe reccomend to invest more money to ESC. For example Kontronik's JIVE is very expensive but worth every penny! I would invest there instead bothering with the motor anymore. That's my 2 cents... |

Well I've tried the best of ESC's; Jive, Jazz and now YGE. I wouldn't use anything less. Atm I have the Scorpion 880 motor and while it is powerful it is overweight. It adds an extra 20g on the Lipotech motor. That may not seem like a lot to you but it upsets my CG because I'm flying with 6s 3300mAh packs. When I had the Kora 15-14 motor I was getting 7 min flight times but with the Scorpion I have to use a 2650mAh pack and the flight time is only 4 mins.

...well the MVVS 6,5 (910KV) = 190g and has enough power to everyone.
Write me PM where we can continue as I think we are out of topic now. |

That's OK, I think we're done here. 190g is a bit heavier than what I thought it would be so it adds little advantage to me over the Scorpion motor.
Just to stay on topic, I'm not sure if the MVVS 6,5 would be suitable for the stretched Protos either. Based on testing different motors in my Sniper2 with 470mmm blades, even the Scorpion motor was getting a good workout. It did a decent enough job but with my flying it was coming down a bit hot and gave nowhere near the same performance as my Pyro 600-09. When I stretch my Protos I'm going to try it with a 14T pinion.

That's why I test the new MVVS 8 (950KV) motor on my 430mm Protos. I just reached 1500W with 6S 2600mAh and I think it can go higher with a better batteries.
It has same diameter as the 6,5 but it's 5mm longer so it's stronger. It just fits the Protos as seen here |

I was considering that motor too. What pinion are you using? I calculated that I would need a 19T or 20T pinion to get the same headspeed I'm getting on my Sniper2 with the Pyro 600-09. Do you know if it can run on 7s or 8s?

The MVVS 8 is 950KV so I normaly use 14t but now I'm trying 15t with governored throttle 70% (JIVE) which gives me around 2900RPM - quite enough I will go back to 14t next week.
Yes you can run 7S but I would have to ask the factory about using 8S. Never asked before but 7S would be nice for that motor and I would say it will be a rocket This motor will be the very good motor for the stretched version I would say. But we've seen the video of a stretched Protos with the Scirpion 880KV and I don't see any power problems with it We can talk only about efficiency of a motor but not about more power I would say. |

According to the specs, the MVVS 8 is 680KV.
http://www.mvvs.cz/elektromotory_e.html Maybe you have a new 950KV version not yet released?
