300x lynx build
I've been eying the 300x since I started flying but shyed away because of all the complaints and what not. I see lynx makes every single part possible for this thing and can't hold back any longer. I've run out of things to do to my 450 and it flys better than anything I've flown including my 500. Given up on my trex 250 currently and just want a smaller park flyer.
Without even flying one of these I decided to go pretty crazy right off the batt: Complete 300x with ar7200bx picked up off here for a good deal Scorpion 2213-14 11-14 t pinions to try out (stock 150t mg) Talon 35 Hitec 5055 Hitec 5084mg (left over from another build should do the job for now) Lynx cf frame Lynx complete tail box assembly Lynx tail push rod Lynx boom supports Lynx boom support clamp Lynx tail servo mount Lynx main and tail blades Pulse 1300 mAh lipo with xt60 connectors If the beast x pisses me off I have a bran new iKON that I can trust to work. I think that is enough reliable parts for now to make it airworthy and lower my chances of having part failure in flight. I am currently choosing to stick with the stock main gear for crash costs. You can get 2 for $9 vs $16 for one lynx slant gear. The stock head assembly should work out for a week or two worth of flights for me then I have to decide to go lynx FL style or if I want to go with the DFC (worried about stripping servos with dfc) Should be a cool heli and from the videos I have seen it will have better disk loading that the trex 250 making it more relaxing and fun to fly. Not looking for a 3d monster just something I can fly after work at a park vs the sim. My AMA field is 25 min from my house and the small park is 5 min. I don't fly 130's anymore so I'm hoping this will fill that void. If not it will at least be a fun project for me to work on! Stay tuned for lots of photos and videos! Even tho this has already been done I still think it will be fun to post updates!

You should reconsider on the slant, especially since you're in this deep with a nice ESC and motor to flex.
OWB is the next thing you might want to consider... Basically you can have a much quieter bird and much less stress on the weakest point in the whole chopper.. the jesus bolt -once the slant & hub is in your machine. In regards to value, the stock gear will strip on 90% of all unexpected landings, one good TH even and its toasted. The slant can deal with TH even without the OWB/hub much better... so the lynx- if you factor in durability, is actually cheaper. Its gonna fly really heavy until you crank up dial 2 compared to stock so if your using your stock BX then it should be pretty tame at first, wouldn't worry about crashing it too much. Metal hub with ultra dampeners should be the next option possibly, since you can stall on deciding between DFC and STD but still benefit from a tighter head. Just some thoughts, having been down the same adventure you're about to set out on. Good luck! |

Welcome to the 300X forum. Given your intended purpose, I'd say you made a great choice. I bought my 300X and Trex 250 at about the same time and I much prefer how my 300X flies. Yeah, much better disk loading and more relaxing and fun to fly. In spite of being significantly larger, I fly it comfortably in a much smaller space than the rex250. I never crash this thing unless I dumbthumb, it's just so smooth and stable.
I'm not sure if you needed any of those upgrades to make it airworthy, but the choices you made look good (I haven't used your servos, the stock ds76's have worked well for me). I think you'll like AR7200bx, it seems made for this bird. I'm using the Lynx DFC head. Works great for me, no issues yet with stripping servos yet but I can't say that it's any better than stock. Also using the Lynx slant gear, pinion and OWB. IDK if it's better, but it's quieter, and I love that. The Lynx plastic blades fly great and don't need much balancing and are very durable but the main blades are heavy (around 18g) and like any small rc heli, weight makes a difference. You can get Gaui X2 spec blades (cheap and carbon fiber) at around 10 to 11g ( you need a spacer at the root). I've kept my bird light (around 460g) and I can't believe how well it flies. I have both the Lynx frame stiffener and the Lynx frame but haven't used either yet, I fly mild and smooth 3d. My current favorite batteries are the Glacier 1300 mAh 30c weighing in at 101g (spec sheet says 115g). I've been back and forth with BuddyRC's customer service thinking they are actually mislabeled 1000mAh, but I'm getting 5 minutes of mild 3D and spirited sport flying, coming down barely warm and at storage voltage and my COG is spot on, I want more of these. I like your motor choice, it's in the near future for me, but my parkfly 2632 is doing great right now. A lot of folk consider this heli to be their beater, or "try new things on" heli, but for me, for a lot of reasons, it's the crown jewel of my fleet. btw, I've enjoyed you posts on the 250 forum. |

Thanks for the positive replies guys! I don't feel so bad spending all this money then, it seems a well set up 300x does in fact fly well after all!
I could have just gone with the trex 450 tail rotor assembly but that's $20 and the last thing I want to do is spend money twice on this heli since it seems I always buy and buy till I get what I should have got so I went a bit crazy. The stock head should see a few good flights, I checked it out and its not all that bad, seems much more tight than the rex 250 head and it has a decent size feathering spindle. Sadly this heli tho is not air worthy as it sits despite the for sale add I was pretty bummed out when I opened it up. I took it completely apart and salvaged the parts I want for the build and ran through the BX to insure it binds and functions all work on it. I keep reading all the people are using the one way bearing setup and I thought it was for the fun factor and decided to skip it for now. I didn't realize that it actually is a positive mod to help not stress stuff. If Double CH says its a good idea (I have now read several posts where he says it is) then I will consider it for my next purchase. I ran the Lynx main gears on my stretch 150x and my stock high powered 130x and every single crash it always wasted the main gear. I was trying to be economic by keeping the stock one but your saying it will strip without even crashing? Or did I read that wrong? Either way, I should have plenty for at least some first impressions videos. Sad I can't fly it as is tho I really wanted to see how a stock one flies first as I progress.

Only real reason to get the slant gear imo is if you cant stand the sound that stock gears make, for me its so bad I have to mute DCHs flight vids, its like nails on a chalk board in my ears. None of them will "just strip", and both will probably do if you hit the ground with plastic blades on and no throttle hold. Up until yesterday I wouldn't but now I can recommend the stretch, when I got the tail to work. All them upgrades make it a little piggy, 275s makes it feel a bit lighter in the air...

Because everyone loves heli porn
I have to hand it to Amain, I ordered this yesterday at 7 am and it was in my mailbox at 10am this morning! Usually they have been procrastinating getting my orders to me ( I live 3 hours south of them too ) Anyways, I will have all the lynx goodies by Monday

Will do! I'll force myself to take progress pictures as I build it too for once. I usually just take one at the end because I got so excited!
If all goes well I will have a maiden video on wednesday.

I'm going to have to do the photos like pulp fiction haha here is what she looks like after 4 hours building from scratch
I took some photos with my real camera and will take some later and upload them all at once. Put one flight on it with a spot light and already I like this thing more than my 250! All stock bx settings no shakes completely smooth!

Here is the maiden flight, nothing too crazy but a few bags of tricks! I really love this thing already, just not liking the beastx as of right now coming from iKON. I think its a tail servo issue or hopefully settings. But I get a constant wiggle/wag while doing any sort of 3d but not in fff at all.
Here is the inside view while the frame was going together
