Talking Hello From Southern Indiana

Hello there, HeliFreaks!

I've signed up here to be a part of what appears to be a great forum of folks dedicated to flying R/C Heli's and helping those that are just getting into the hobby. I've owned my 4 little R/C birds for a few years now but don't consider myself a "Pro" by any means. However that didn't keep me from purchasing a crash recovery Blade 450 3D bird a couple of years ago. While I am not afraid to fly a larger than micro-coaxial helicopter, I am still learning how to setup the rebuilt 450.

That's mainly why I'm posting here now. To introduce myself, since I've been "lurking in the shadows" here for about 2 years.

I live in Southern Indiana, Columbus, to be exact. I don't know of anyone around the area that flies, fixed wing or copter, but maybe there are some folks?

I own a Syma (sp?) coaxial that started this whole electric Heli flying thing for me. Then moved to the Blade 450 3D. (kinda JUMPED right in there, huh?) It was a local cragslist buy after the previous owner got "a rodeo ride" out of it. He flew it 8 seconds he said. Since the rebuild, I haven't even tried to hover it. Not 100% certain it IS flyable?

Anyway, since I felt more mature with flying than the Syma was giving, I decided to step up to the world of hobby grade Heli's and bought a used Blade MCx2. I already had the Spektrum DX6i, so a BNF version was perfect. Then that led to wanting to venture outdoors so I recently bought a Blade 120SR. Of course, it failed a tail motor within a week.

I bring these birds up because it was THIS Forum that helped me with all my repairs, setups and lessons learned. The experience here is abundant and I just wanted to join to say THANK YOU HeliFreaks for being here as my guide.

What's up? I'm from the southern Illinois area and finding other like minded heli pilots are not real common in our geographical area. Most of the fields here are primarily plank fields that let helis fly there. I've been looking at two fields and it will probably boil down to distance. I think I might visit both though to take a look at the fields to see if the further one is nicer, etc.

Howdy!

I'm still indoor flying at the moment, since weather keeps me inside and when it IS nice out, I'm working...

But soon.

I'm hoping to hit the "local" airstrip, that as you said about your area, let's Heli's fly on their strip.

Hoping maybe there are more folks around these parts that like helping newb pilots?

Anyway, Thanks for being here!!

Thank You very much for invite!! And for the Welcome here!

(Wife & I do make it to Louisville to eat at Kingfish from time to time... so traveling for fun is always easier to do!)

As of now, just starting to "start over" I suppose? Currently looking for a good Sim, since even after months of reading, without successful practice, and even WITH good HeliFreak setups, my little coax MCX2 is the best bird to fly...

The 120SR is giving me fits after motor number 3, and the 450 needs new main blades after a ground strike on initial take off.

Until I get some Sim hours logged, and new parts, the outdoor birds are gonna have to wait. Maybe NEXT summer I'll be ready!

Really LOVE this site so far, though!!!
