Default What did you do with your PRÔTOS today?

I'll start.

I finally received a replacement Gens Ace battery yesterday. They had sent me one with a bad cell. Yay.. Having only one battery really sux.

I flew two packs this morning before I went to work and all went well. I have it set to 14 degrees pitch, but I think that is way out of my skill level, so when I upgrade my beastX to v3 I'm going to dial it down to 12 or 12.5 degrees to see if that reduces the pucker factor. I've got my batteries charging right now, so I can get two more flights in after work.

What about ya'll?

Edit: Also overflew one of my batteries by two minutes.. doh! Had it down to 3.4v. I can't hear my timer beep on my DX6i over the sound of the blades. Looks like I'm going to have to get a Dx8 sooner just for the vibrate feature.

I've never waxed a canopy before.. I'm going to have to try that. Do you use regular car wax?

Thumbs up

I used Eagle One Wax-As-U-Dry, Turtle wax is good too..... It helps the aerodynamics, I think?
I am really bored, Snow sucks!!!

Thanks for asking.

Finished rebuild last night, including the usual. I broke the servo frame and tore a tab off a cyclic servo case, so I took the opportunity to replace all the gears in my MKS 9660A's.

I also gave most of the bearings a refresh. And I got 3 Gens Ace, on the charger right now. Sky is cloudy but definitely flyable.

The heli is so fresh and new that I probably should have treated it to a new canopy, but you can't really destroy a Shamu canopy, so I cleaned it off and it's ready to go.

I hope that's all I have to report for the day, other than some good remaiden and back-at-it.

I'm using the protos to practice early piro-flips. That also cost me a 550E crash... Anything to save the Logo, which is the only heli known to fly as sweet as the protos.

Had my first flight for 6 weeks and did square loops. Love my Protos so much.

One small problem with my plan.

Guess where I live. Beats snow, I guess, but not a balmy day at the field.

Actually, I'm a little north of the apparent weather machine weapon trials, but the default field is closer in.

How do the polycarbonate canopies hold up in a crash?

Absolutely indestructible. I Sharpei'd one and even that one bent back into flyable, albeit ugly, condition.

The only reason I have found to fly a FG canopy is that the poly is a bit more resonant, and if you are getting into the blissful silence of a Protos, it's a little sweeter to fly the FG.

I just flew two more packs today.. The Protos is really starting to grow on me now that I'm getting used to the power/weight ratio.

I checked my headspeed twice with the Heli-Headspeed app on my phone. Not sure how accurate the numbers I'm getting are.

here is my results:
First flight
Normal-80%=2826rpm
Idle Up-85%=2997rpm

Second Flight
Normal-80%=2728rpm
Idle Up-85%=2967rpm

I flew mine this weekend with new Mavrikk VST blades. Felt like flying underwater, uber slow on cyclic. They have collective pop, but that's about it.

I increased vbar agility from 110 to 120 but that only made the motor work harder. I'm going back to the SABs as soon as possible.

I got my beastX upgraded to v3, then on the re-maiden, it rolled backwards and the tail hit the ground. oops. guess I missed something in the setup.

My latest miss was that while clicking through the collective range I must have tapped a stick and my positive collective was very low, negative was fine.

Makes me nervous.

when I was reversing a servo in my transmitter, I unreversed it before clicking it in.
was getting dark, and I was in a hurry to test hover it and didn't do a proper preflight check. My fault totally.

EDIT:
Here's the damage:
Boom, Tailcase,Tail Rotor Full Assembly,Tail Shaft, and Tail Pitch Assembly

Nothing at all today.
Waiting for parts to rebuild the tail.
Might have to wax the canopy and blades or something.

When I was upgrading to V3 on my Beastx the other day, I discovered that one of my swash links was one turn off and that my main shaft collar had moved and there was a half mm of up and down play. I exploded the tail before I could test it and see if I resolved the issue with my heli moving to the left on pitch pumps.

Nice Day here in Atlanta. 67 degrees, partly cloudy.

I flew one battery on my way in to work. I love the Protos, its so stable and fast. Still makes my knees shake the first time I fly it for the day every time. Such a rush!!

Did fast figure 8s with random punch outs during.. Back flips holding an inverted hover for about 5 seconds before flipping back over.forward & backwards.

Batteries are charging now so I can get a couple more flights in after work.

Ordered a thrusted tail and 18T pulley also.. can't wait to try them out.

Anybody else today?

I flew four packs on mine. It's flying great, my recently metal gear converted futaba servos are working great. It was about 34 degrees out and I was cold so I did alot of big air fast flying, practiced some piro flight for a bit, and did some good low mobious flips. Flew some other helis too but who cares. Definitely spend most of my time today on the protos.
