Default This may be the best carry case yet, for the 500

I found a Archery case, $129.99 at Cabela's, that is just perfect the the TREX 500.

The Freedom 4000 bow transport case by SKB has a customizable interior with the tie-down cleats that can be repositioned to secure accessories inside the case using hook-and-loop bottom surfaces and pull-through cinch straps. Convenient and secure snap-down latches ensure closure. Built-in stacking system for storage of multiple cases.

Hardshell case protection with EPS lid and base inserts for additional structural integrity and durability, along SKB's unique Perfect Match Valance Bending System for a perfect seal, and beefy injection molded latches reflect Freedom's rugged construction. The 2SFR-4000 Freedom Double Bow Case comes with a Limited 5-Year Warranty against manufacturer's defects.

The TREX 500 will fit into the case without any modifications. The case is airline approved and comes with keys and TSA locks.

Dimensions: 41-3/4" L x 18" W x 6-3/4" H.

It's hard to make out, but how's the padding in there? It seems like it may only be a thin layer on the top and bottom, and those tie down cleats. Does your TX stay secure in there without being tossed around since it's not tied down?

Also, how's the pressure when you close it? Is it putting any pressure on the canopy?

The padding is 3/4 inch Styrofoam, a 1/4 in layer of foam and a 1/8 in layer Velcro loop.
The tie cleats have Velcro hooks on the bottom and can be positioned anywhere on the top or bottom halve of the case.

All of the items were positioned in the case for illustration. The TX and heli will need to be secured with straps to prevent shifting in the case.

When closing the case, only the landing gear touches both sides of the case,
there is a 3/8 gap when lid is closed, so the case foam will absorb the pressure applied to the landing gear when the case is fully closed and locked.

Black Titanium, Look good . how much room is there from top of foam to edge of case? Will the foam inserts come out or are they glue in to the case?

The three layers, Velcro, soft foam and Styrofoam, is 1 inch deep total.
The Styrofoam layer is glued to the case shell, the foam layer is glued to the Styrofoam, and the Velcro layer is glued to the soft foam.

BT i'm think that about being able to have solid foam in top and bottom with foam. Then cutting out foam for heli, radio, charger, batteries ,etc. How much space is there from Styrofoam to edge of case about 2" i'm guessing ?

It is about 2-3/4 inches from the top of the installed padding to the case edge on each half of the case.

Where is a good source to get that kind of foam? Because I considered doing that too.

I have the Modda case too.
I managed to carry the Modda case on board Southwest Airlines, on a trip to San Diego.
But was forced to check the Modda case at the gate, returning to Seattle, and the case was damaged in baggage handling.

The feet side of the Modda case is bent.

One of the case's foot is loose at the rivet point.

The Modda case is cracked and warped on the handle side panel.

The Modda case is great for transporting the heli in the car, but it will not survive airport baggage handling.

Nice pull! Just ordered one up. Best lookin case I've seen in a while and the SKB cases are very sturdy.
Would be nice to find some sort of foam filling for the case.

Hi Chris,

Yeah, that's the case I wanted to pick up when I was living in Germany but they were constantly sold out and I don't think they even sell them any more.

Great case though for the 500!

Burg, it is a great case. I just bought 2 recently. Yes you are right, they are hard to get, but they (alucases.com) just got a shipment a few weeks ago.
Once they are sold out, it will take a few month for them to get new ones in.

The only "problem" with the case is that it does not have a carrying handle on the middle. Just on the end of the case.

Too bad I don't live in Germany. I wish they shipped to the US, but I'm sure shipping would be more than the case.

I received the case and am happy with the quality but am a little dissapointed to see that the heli's landing gear is too big for it. There's a lot of pressure on them when you close the case. Are you using the stock landing gear?

I have the stock skids on mine.
My case closes without any pressure, when the heli is positioned with the skids on the hinge side of the case.
There is some pressure on the skids, when the heli is positioned with main rotors on the hinge side of the case.
