the canopy isn't ready yet.

for the glow model, there's a std 6mm start shaft in the front of the main shaft. Won't need to remove the canopy to start it.

Thanks for the reply! Now, I just wonder how fast these will sell out and if you'll be able to keep up with the demand. Are there any waiting lists for ordering one?

I'm not aware that pre-orders are yet being taken, but I'm sure that will happen pretty soon.

Nice....
I would like to see the batteries further back in the frame though. I think they would balance better.

Now make those frames a bit bigger so we can get 10 and 12s in there for the Ion part 2.

Its already big enough for 10s.

Any news on the canopies?

Looks like it'll be either the MXR500e or IonX for me once I get a job hehe.

I meant for a set of something like 5s4p that we currently use on the Ion and inside the frames.
I know the setup will handle 10 and 12s no problem, but I want the batteries inside that frame and out of the way.

Carey,
So is that picture include the "new" head?
If so I don't see anything really different from the current Extreme head with the Stratus carrier except the carrier is shaved down a tad.
Is there something more to that?

The pictures look great on the new updated page, though I wish they were a little larger and clickable. I'm excited to see what the canopy will look like. For some reason I picture an open intake duct under the nose of the canopy for cooling the O.S. head and for glow plug access. Can't wait to see these hit the market. I've got some money saved for my first heli. Would be cool if it was a MXR500!

Does anyone know how long it would take to change from Nitro to Electric?
And is it realistic to envisage the transformation at the flying field?

the canopy isn't ready yet, so it can't be pictured.

The rotor head will likely change to something a little lighter, however it will be based on the ultimate 3D head found on the Stratus

The model is still undergoing final development so some of the details could change. To that end, it doesn't make sense to show high resolution pictures of the model.

Conversion - the conversion looks like it is going to be more difficult than originally expected. The space needed for the batteries requires moving servos and other components that will probably make a conversion impractical. This situation could change though.

Thx Carey.
Well I personally do not mind that 'conversion' is not a priority.
I'd rather have a well thoughtout and lightweight machine, than a compromised mixed design.

Michel, its really easy. Just buy one or two chargers, a heli and your finished.

At the field I think electrics are easier. Just plug n play.

I agree Laurens,
Luckily I already own an Ion-X and all the required paraphernalia...
But I wouldn't mind also adding some 'squirelly' nitro machine to my nitro fleet, and have compatible parts.

Can this be referred to as the Fury MXR?

And when will there be news about the canopy?

No, it will be the XCell MXR. The Extreme was the last model designated as a Fury

Default Just an idea

I'm not an engineer by any means, so take this idea with a grain of salt, but I thought of something while looking at all the pictures posted so far of the awesome MXR500 prototype.

Let me be the first say I have no idea how this would effect the balance of the heli, the aerodynamics, the canopy mounting, and tooling costs, but in my mind, I see a possible opportunity to (maybe??) provide a better way of mounting up the radio gear. If one was to simply extend out the plate which supports the main drive, near the tail, you would have a nice 'shelf' on which to strap down or mount a reciever, gryo, or governor. Mill a couple slots in this shelf and some velcro could easily strap down the electronics, and you'd be able to wrap the reciever/gryo/governor in foam if it would benefit the electronics. You could stack a reciever on the top and a governor on the bottom, sharing the single piece of velcro. One extension like this on each side of the air frame would provide plenty of room and it might help out with the routing of the wires, making for a slightly cleaner install.

Anyway, just something I thought I'd throw out there. It may or may not work, so to the crew at Miniature Aircraft, please don't take offense to this. I'm no pro - just a guy (total newbie actually!) with an idea.

I hope I didn't step on any toes or upset the original poster of the photos by taking one and modifying it!

Looking at the picture you posted. I know I would not want my electronics close to where the outlet of the muffler is located.
The nitro MXR 500 that was on display at a couple of shows. All the electronics are mounted in nice locations. The sensor for the gyro is located about as far away from the motor as it can be on the model.

Also most of the models are getting more tail heavy. That was some of the reasoning of placing the motor on the front end of the model. This is not the first model that has the motor mounted in the front.

The Electric is now flying and will be flown continuously from here on out.

The glow model will be flying shortly.
