made the mod, report 1
Using moded 3G sensor and Spartan metal plate mounting, got to fly this afternoon. Decided to test first with my previous settings, apples to apples. Short test hop in the driveway, everything looks ok. Got to the field (luna for locals) and flew 3 packs. Flies great! Actually flies much like before but all the little wierd things are gone, best I can tell. Excellent. Flew more aggressively than I've been willing to with this heli. A definte improvement. I'm changing to Leon's settings tonight so I hope to have another report tomorrow evening.
We had a perfect beautiful fall flying day here in Texas today. cheers, dpa |

Flew mine today and it was awesome!!! The bobble on hard stops are gone!! My gain was raised almost 20 points, still no bobble!!!! This is the best mod ever.

GREAT!! I just sold my 3G today when I gave up on it.
Is this really worth trying again with the MOD.? I love the simplicity of the 3G wiring and set up, but never really liked the way it flew. Additionally, does anyone have their 3G USB settings for a 700E? Would it be the same as Leon's 700N file? Thanks, Mark

Best I can tell this helps. I'm not a 3D flyer...but it seems to have smoothed it out and allowed more gain for better tracking. I'd say some of the 'weirdness' vanished also.

I wonder if putting a piece of 1mm 4010 tape on the bottom of the circuit board before it's put back together would help?

I have been itching to try the 3-G in my 600N since I modded it. I reinstalled with same tape combo of 3m grey/metal plate/ 3m grey. I also let all settings the same so I could get a true comparison.
It definatley changed the feel. I never had any real complaints about the system before other than piro consistency. I have also found that it does not tolerate vibes either. Which is fine because you should be running as vibe free as possible. It feels more responsive now almost a bit twitchy to me. I have not flown in almost two weeks so after a warm up flight all I can say is it felt different, not in a bad way but more like I was flying someone elses heli that I was not familar with. I am going to set all my settings back to default and try again in the AM. |

Question about increased Aileron Cnotrol Rate
setting up for tomorrow, using Leon's numbers. I guess these are all based on the little knobs on the 3G control unit being at 12:00 ?
(never mind) Great MOD!!! thanks, dpa Last edited by dpa; 10-16-2010 at 09:25 PM.. Reason: figured it out... |

Just put the first flight on mine. So far I am very happy with the result. I didn't change any of the settings in the software from before the mod. But the whole machine feels much much smoother. The tail is quite a bit better, not perfect but much better. The bobbles on very fast hard cyclic stops is almost completely gone. In fact now it looks like more of a 3G over-correction than anything.
Also, I used permatex ultra copper rtv |

Well guys??? I don't no what happend. I did the mod Friday night. I filled the sensor up with silicon. I flew it this morning and WOW!!! Totally great! No changes to the setting (Factory setting). 3rd flight in and having ball! I notice the AIL is not quite right. I got it back on the ground...no crash. I decided to go back through the setup. When I get to steps 4 & 5...forget it! I go through step 4 but step 5...no responce to tilting the 700 left and right. Any ideas?

Sorry guy's I don't thinks its anything to do with th mod...It just DEAD! It just died right here on the table. The ALIE and the Elevator servos surged and thats all she wrote! No power at all to the 3G. I thought it might be a bad receiver so I changed it out...nothing doing. I'm clueless? O well back to the drawing board! IT was flying GREAT this morning!

Too much silicon? Overheated the electronics?

what did you use to secure the sensors?

You know Jon, that's definately something to think about. I can't imagine that the sensors are that inefficient that the minuscule amp draw that the system uses would do something like that. But we never truly know. Perhaps that is why align did not epoxy the whole thing as they should have.
Mine didn't something quite odd on the second flight as well. It took it up a few feet and did a lazy flip to inverted then a lazy climbout straight up. As I reached apogee to bring it back down it sort off rolled off to the side like a plan in a stall turn. I immediately landed which felt a little odd in ground effect. My first though was that one of the servos had gone bad again given the beating I had given it te previous flight. On the ground everything seemed fine with the servos. I had also turned up the gains to 60 on Aileron and Elevator before this flight, so I though maybe it was a bad write to the units. I reconnected the system and tried rewriting the settings again, but ran into an issue with the Bell/Hiller settings I had. I've seen this before but this time it would let me write the settings. I changed it back to 50 Bell and wrote the settings. This time it took, so I reset the Bell back to 45 and wrote them again and it took that time as well. Upon startup I double checked the system initialization phase as well as aileron and elevator gyro functionallity. Everything seemed to be fine during my next flight. There seemed to be a few odd reactions in flight, but I've had some odd things happen before. Nothing I can really explain, just the helicopter doing something you wouldn't expect given it's current inputs and trajectory. I managed to get another flight after that and tested the system in big fast manuevors. And didn't notice much else. I'm anxious to see how this pans out for everyone. The weather is turning here and flight time is limited. |

Thats simular to what mine did. I could get step five to work in the 3G manual. Then it died all together...
