We run the castle esc. We have run the 160 edge and the 120 edge. Both will work. If you are good with collective the 120 is fine. If not or you bang them hard then the 160. I also tried timing settings and it seems like it is better with it at high 10 degrees. We also have the newest firmware in the castle. The governor is way better with it. We didn't loose any flight time and it carried it through the hard pulls better. I also have seen the kontonics work well plus I would like to try the new King Kong esc but haven't yet. Those are the two though I would look at unless you try the King Kong

You ever tried the King Kong 160 ESC? If so, what are your thoughts?

Yes we did. Sorry for not getting back to you. King Kong worked ok. Sounded different but worked ok. Not enough of a difference to get me to switch from castle especially since they took the fan out

I also run the CC Edge 160 with a fan on the 535 G3. Same settings as LaDon recommended. I also run the castle gov on the new firmware over the VBar gov.

Ran the Castle 120 and 160s, Yge 120 and 160s, Scorpion also, which was a total bust, and Hobbywing 120. I finally settled on the Yge 160 using the Skookum gov for my use on my 700s and am looking for a larger 200a version for one of my KDE equipped 800s. Ran them for about a year on 12s, but 14s is sooo much better. Dropped about 40 amps going 14s. Castle can't do 14, so I sold all their esc's. Nothing gov's as well as the proactive Skookum gov, which hits better than the $800 Kontronik. Still run the KT800 motor left over in my Triabolo 800 but wont touch their esc's again. The KDE shreds gears in the Tri 800, due to its massive power output, whereas the KT800 works ok. But I run the YGE 160 there due to the fact the Castle didn't run their 14 stator very well. Oddly I had much better luck with the relatively cheap Yep120 over the Castle with my Kde's, especially once the 14s move reduced the amp draws.

You can get by if you are gentle on the sticks with a 120, but I find it real hard to stay gentle on the sticks with such an awesome motor! Popping 120s isn't fun nor cheap. And I popped more than one.

This is the Forza 700 with a KDE 700-535 motor. Castle 120 esc. Gearing is 9.33 to 1 and a set of zeal 718 blades on it. This is definitely not taking it easy. Usually his wattage use is around 6000 peak with a amp draw of around 160 max. Good collective helps a bunch

I have a Heli Jive 120 HV I was going to run with the 700 XF 535 G 3. On the Kontronik forum they are saying it won't work with this motor ? So I bought a new Hobbywing Platinum Pro 160. This is going on a new Protos 700 Max. Should I use the 120 or the 160 ?

What was the reasoning that the helijive wouldn't work they said? Depending on your collective management either will work. If you like pushing the sticks to the limit then use the 160

I guess that's the reason. Some people push things to the limit so to them it will not work. Also I guess with no real published data on the Jive upper limits people will error on the side of caution and say no it will not work.

Well that video of Ryan I put up that Heli in that flight has a 120 castle in it. The helijive I would not be afraid of at all. Error on the big side has no downside to it tho. Ryan was just flying xfc and we were cutting all the weight we could for performance.

WOW !! Incredible flight. He was definitely not taking it easy.

My skill level is not at that level. Mostly big air flips, rolls, loops. I am trying but not there yet.

I can't see why the Heli Jive 120 HV would not work.

I bought the Hobbywing 160 HV V4 ESC for the KDE XF700 535 to be safe. Now I see on the Hobbywing forum guys with this ESC and this motor are getting shut downs ?

It is supposed to be able to handle a 700-800 helicopter and huge power up to 350 amp spikes.

So am I still not safe to run this with this motor ? Has anyone here tried it with success ?

Or do I need to buy another motor or ESC ?

Is Castle 160 HV ESC the only ESC that works well with this motor ?

You would need to try it to make sure. I have never used one so I can't say for sure that it will or won't. If you can auto then I would put it in and try it. Just fly high enough for a while and make sure. Most shut downs happen from either setting it up wrong or ppl think they need them wild pitch numbers. I know ppl that run 18 degrees of pitch for 3D. If you are one of those guys and use it then you prolly will shut it down. I don't know how hobby wing does their over amp settings but castle give you a few options to pick from. If the hobby wing gives you options use the highest one. The 535 motor is not the biggest thing out there it should handle it well.

Hobbywing doesn't give you options now. Suppose to do a update but they said it would be off or sensitive ? And he doesn't recommend off ? So you would still have the same issue. One guy was doing the newest update and is going to try this motor again..
