Further clarification is that these cases were not designed to be mounted with the output shaft vertically by using the 4 recoil cover mounting bolts so boss height is not a critical dimension for Zenoah. This is not a defect in their design. The cases when new and undamaged sit flat and only the damaged one that I checked was not true.
Ocr231 loosened the bolt in question and the mount plate on his Whiplash sprung back to leave roughly a .038 thou gap that he plans to reassemble with a washer to fill the void. It remains to be seen if this will cure the cracking problem or a reinforcing plate of sorts will be needed to brace this area of the case as it may be susceptible to breakage because of the thinness in the radius and farther extension from crank centerline. Another flier using an RC conversion in his Spectra G with many hours on it reported no failure in this area using the g10 material mount which does a better job of dampening vibes then the carbon Whip mount. |

My whiplash didn't show any cracks, but when I pulled the bolt to double check the cf plate did spring back. Put a washer with the spec suggested and retightened bolt. As I am not a 3d guy, maybe that is why mine did not crack?

Depends on how much you fly it
It will never break sitting on the bench, even 10 years later.
I don't believe 3D has much to do with it, its more related to the aluminum being subjected to vibrations while its flexed due to the short stud causing stress on the material. Mine on my whiplash cracked but it took a while, I'd guesstimate around 500 flights before I noticed it. It was just a short hairline crack that is similar to the picture above. I flew onwards with it but now my motor is at Hanson's place getting upgraded to a 300, so I asked him to replace the case for me while he was at it. You should be fine with no issues after adding that washer to relieve the stress on the material. -=>Raja.

My engine case has cracked in that spot on the whiplash.
I am confused where you guys are putting the spacer/shim? I have looked at it and put a shim between the crank case mount lug and the fan cover. This has closed the crack up in the crank case. I did at first put the shim between the fan cover and the whiplash mounting plate, but when the bolt was tightened the crack on the crank case opened up again. |

Washer
Supposed to go between the CF bottom plate and the engine. This way the washer will fill the gap between there, only one the 1 bolt closest to the carb. 38 thousands is the right size but something close enough to that will do.
