Another puffed lipo
hey all,
so i've slightly puffed another zippy, but this time it was one of my newer ones... less than 40 cycles. i flew for only 4 minutes, doing rolls, invert, flips, some tictocs but nothing suuper hard. i noticed that when i landed it, the lipo was pretty damn hot. i'm not running a crazy headspeed or anything... its at around 2100. i thought tht maybe my mesh or tailbelt was too tight but that's not the case. all of the bearings seem ok but maybe i should look a little closer... any more ideas??? i'm running out of lipos |

Maybe you just got some poor quality batteries.
Have you puffed that Loong max yet? It is one of the lesser expensive brands too, right? I been using a couple of the cheap GForce lipos and they been ok so far. Now mind you I just fly like a granny, but, I been flying them for 9 min. flights with a Gaui motor. |

what was the outside temp when you were flying? I heard the pacific NW was getting some high temps and causing LiPos to puff... I know that down here in the heat of the summer, flying is rough on packs... so I trim a 30 second to a minute off just to not stress the pack...

hmmm that would make sense mystic... the temps here have broken all time records. i think when i went out yesterday it was just under 100. i'll try setting my timers at like 330 just to be safe and we'll see if it happens again.
jerry- the loongmax is holding up well. i only holds about 4.17 volts per cell now tho, but it still has more pop than the others. i haven't flown that one in this heat yet tho |

GEE I wish it was just under 100 here, last week i didnt see under 100 during the day, Have you tried putting some holes in your canopy to cool the battery durring flight, I'm sure that you have, but sometimes I like to ask stupid questions

hehe... hasn't broken 100 here yet... but it's come close (98) several times... August will be the brutal month here...upper 90's to low 100's... flying only happens early or late to stay out of the heat..

Well, although our winters can be quite brutal here near the Great Lakes, at least our summers are real nice. Today was sunny, with light breeze, and 72 degrees.
Usually is between 70 and 80 during June through August, then it snows in September. Keeps snowin till about May too. |
