Default 1st flight on a new to me 90

Finally get to spool up my recently aquired raptor. other than the pin issues with the tail, which i already fixed, is there anything in particular that i need to watch or be aware of? running an os 91 non pumped. also how do you tell what model it is. its def not the new 3d but what differences are there between the original and the SE?

Hope you guys are liking your 90's. Just a few things to watch out for.

1) Do the pin mods on the 2 pins in the tail transfer case, and the 1 pin in the tail rotor drive shaft.

2) Make sure and lubricate the autorotation hub with tri-flo so as not to have any lock ups.

3) Make sure the bell cranks that contol your cyclic are at 90 degrees in relation to the swash plate when your pitch arm is at neutral and at 0 degrees pitch. That way they don't bind on you at full cyclic throws.

4) This one is just personal. I have found that if you go lower that 20 grams on the flybar paddles, your control and stability is not as good.

5 Don't go any higher than 12/10 elevator/cyclic pitch or you can bog the engine while your at full pitch. Unless of course you are well skilled at collective management.

6) Have a great time with your 90's. You will find that the Raptor is a very stable, responsive, and durable machine to fly. Good luck to you and your Raptors.

Hello Badger50

I have just got a used Raptor 60V2 and flies good after some setups, could you please advice if the pin modification applies to Raptor 60 as well, and how are the post modification pins identified in comparison with pre modification pins.

Regards

Hey Iae88: If the pins were modified, there will probably be a piece of shrink wrap around the pin, or possibly a piece of metal. If you go to the raptor 50 section of the forum, look for the thread, "The pin thing finally happened to me". You will see how to make sure that the pins don't come out on you while your flying, which to say the least, is VERY BAD :-). Good luck to you and your Raptor.

Default Pin Mod

I don't know if this is just on a 90se. But on my 90se with TT it has a grub screw going into the tail shaft that holds the shaft pin. Is the set up different on other Raptors without the TT?

I had a 30v2 with a belt but don't really remember if there was a pin or not.

Hey Corona: Yeah, that is the way all of the raptors are. They all use the grub screws to hold the retaining pin in place. Unfortunately, they work their way out at times. Its happened to me as well. Iae88, sorry I forgot to mention that on my last post. That's why its a good idea to do the modification if its not already been done on your 60. Good flying to all of you :-)

The mod is to take a small piece of shrink wrap, I think 3/8" in diameter, and cover the pin. Don't leave any excess material on the side since it could get caught up in the drive shaft. Once you have it on there, take a toothpick, any apply a little CA glue on the inside of the shrink wrap, and then heat it with a heat gun. This will help insure that the pin stays put. Go to the raptor 50 forum and search for the thread, "The pin thing finally happened to me". You will see pictures and suggestions on how to keep the pins in place. Good luck with your raptor :-)

Badger, Thanks for the info. I have 2 grub screws locked in and I put a small flat on my pin when I heard about the failures. It's easy enough the mod you decribed and probaly do it just to be super safe. Not good when the tail lets go.....

Thank you Badger 50

I have checked my R60 and the pin is secure, I will do the modification later, I have also checked my Raptor E550, thanks for the information.

andersminit

I am in the same situation here as well, wettest July since 1920, and windy even if it is not raining, than I use my Walkera 4#3 B indoors out of desperation.
