Default Eagle tree E-logger

What kind of sensor are folks using to record RPM?

I use the brushless motor sensor. It's the easiest to install, as it's only a wire attached to a ESC->Motor wire. No magnets, no other sensors, etc.

Ok.

It tells you the HS? Does it do a calculation based on info you give it in the software or something?

Yes, when you set up the logger, you tell it pole count and gear ratio, and it calculates headspeed based on motor speed.

+2 for brushless sensor. Ive now got all my helis (3) set up with the motor sensor wire to a small plug so I can move the elogger and RPM sensor from heli to heli rather than needing three RPM sensors. The Eagle tree is a great little gadget and invaluable for setting up a new heli or improving collective management.

+3 Its a great tool for dialing in the RPM's and watching how your packs are performing.

Which one do most of you use, the 100A or the 150A version? With wires or w/out?

I got the 150 for possible future use. I don't ever get over 100, but I figure if I was buying it, I'd rather go all the way. I got the wires, just because I was afraid of connectors breaking off of circuit boards.

I have the 100A and 150A loggers with wires because I use Anderson Powerpole connectors. I also have the hall-effect sensor for headspeed. I prefer the direct measurement based on the main gear rotation rather than a calculated measurement from the motor pulses and gearing.

Hall effect pickup with the little magnets. The main gear even has a place for the magnet to go. Mounted the sensor on a bent paperclip bolted to the frame. Seems really accurate.
