Default 3g setup

1. The DIR setting mode in the 3G system will only record the subtrim position. If subtrim is not changed, there is no need to return to the DIR setup mode. But the digital trim on the TX must be zeroed every time the DIR setup is performed.

You dont have to zero the subtrim every time you enter the DIR menu.... I just leave my sub trim set the way it is when I re do the cyclic limits to increase or decrease them.

During setup in DIR, the cyclic servo endpoints should be left at 100%, as the 3G only requires that the swash be level at 0 degrees, via adjustments to the subtrims and mechanical setup.

No changes to the endpoints from 100% is recommended at setup or after flight trimming.

2. After DIR setting is completed, the only TX setting changes allowed for aileron and elevator are:

A) Digital TX trim

B) D/R

C) EXPO

D) SWASH AFR (futaba) or Cyclic swash mix(JR/Spektrum)% This is for adjusting the ail/ele response speed rate, it does not affect the ail/ele end point limit, no need to re-enter DIR

The AFR (cyclic swash mix) will only decrease the cyclic rate... If you set your DIR limits at example 60% and the helicopter rolls to slow increasing just the AFR will not increase the roll speed. You must redo the DIR limits at the higher value... But you may turn the AFRs down to decrease the roll/elevator speeds.

E) Collective Swash Mix (JR/Spektrum) to set overall max pitch

3. During actual flights, multiple flight conditions (IE normal and aerobatics) with different digital TX trims can be used to trim the heli for level inverted/normal hover.

4. The maximum pitched allowed for both collective and cyclic is 14 degrees. But since not everyone needs that much pitch, we recommend 12 degrees. This value is also the result of Alan Szabo’s recommendation after numerous tests, which is a good balance between smooth and fast flying characteristics. But of course you could also set the cyclic pitch to your liking.

5. The manual skipped elevator swash mix percentage setting because the system automatically sets a cyclic ring based on aileron swash mix percentage setting. (This renders the SWASH RING function useless on the TX.) So only aileron setting is needed, setup to the elevator swash mix will have no effect to the 3G system.

Thanks steph and alan, I hope I got it straight.

Error correction, In setup and there after, do not change cyclic servo endpoints from 100%

Hey Leon,
So Swash Mix on Ail/Elev affect a decrease in the speed of flips and rolls similar to how rudder ATV's affect a speed decrease (and increase ) of piro rate on a standard gyro configuration?

That is correct, to slow it down decrease swash mix on the cyclic, to speed it up though you need to do DIR setup again and set it with a higher cyclic swash mix percentage.

Thanks Leon for the input, is clear with sub-trims for all of us.
You said that in setup and there after we cannot alter the servo endpoints, but how we'll level the swash for low and high stick position? Can you alter those values BEFORE ENTERING in setup? Thanks.

The system should be taking care of that.

Why should I need to use TX trim when set up? Should not the gyro keep it straight?

Yes the gyro is supposed to keep the heli straight. But some people don't want it straight.

Some people prefer to have a little forward trim so the heli drifts forward in hover.

Like Leon said, some like to trim it one way for right side up hover, and trim it another way for inverted hover. In this case different trim settings can be incorporated into different flight conditions on your TX.
