I get plenty of power out of a 1100kv motor on my 550.

Terry, the original BL5052 1200Kv KDS stock motor that comes with the combo, as well as the stock 120A ESC from KDS are both pretty damn good. The motor is almost indestructible. The ESC however is a bit tricky on the programming side if you've never done it.
If your wallet is starting to become extremely itchy then you might want to think about putting a ROXXY ESC in. I have the Roxxy 9120-12 Opto.
Both the KDS as well as the Roxxy ESC can handle 8S, 10S and 12S setups with out any change. (You'd only need to put a motor with lower Kv in)

As for the BEC I can really recommend the MTTECH KETO HV BEC. This one is HV proof if you ever choose to beef the bird up to 8S, 10S or 12S or if you ever wish to use HV servos in the future.

I admit that I do love the Savöx Servos. for cylclic I am using the SC-1258 TG but only because I got them for a special deal. The SC-1257 TG are suited just as well and are usually a bit cheaper.
For the tail I am using the Savöx SH-1290 MG
I can really recommend the Savöx Servos not only from my own experience but also based on the experience of at least 7 friends who fly these in birds of the 550, 600 and 700 size.

as for the FBL I am a BEASTX guy, since I am used to the simplicity of programming it and the option to change flight set up parameters on the field very easily without the necessity of a computer.
Nevertheless, the Mikado V-Bar had also been an option for me. I would not fly with the Align 3G or the KDS e-bar systems, but I can't logically explain why.
Other alternatives exist, such as the helicommand series.

Oh - and I forgot to add to what I had listed in the other thread:

you know you're addicted to RC-helis when you...

...are cursed to fix the blade tracking even on you lawn mower and the ceiling vent.

...buy an entire heli worth in spare parts before you even crash.

...order the next size of heli before you even have sufficient control about the smaller one you already have.

KDS Innova 550 FBL-S4 So this would be a good option with a different ESC and pitch the e-bar in the garbage? This is the option I am looking at. Can always change motor and servos down the road. Familyman67 you say it would be fine with that motor and servos?

Addicted and then some, Familyman67 thanks for the smiles things I can do on the sim makes me want to do them IRL, the 450 is tuned up and I'm doing things that I thought would take many months to do, did a few flights yesterday without the training gear, just simple hovers and side to side, trying to take it slow but the addiction has taken over. I have heard that the 550's are so much more stable and really want to build MY heli. Know you and all here will understand!

I said it would be fine with the stock motor, but non stock (Savöx) servos.

Yes, it is much more stable,
and, oh yes, we do understand! After all we're just as addicted as you are.

Familyman67,

The Roxxy 9120-12 Opto and the MTTECH KETO HV BEC are available in Europe and to be honest my German is next to nothing, could you suggest "equal or comparable" that I can purchase here in the US? To be honest I wouldn't even know how much I was paying. One more thing do you run a 14t or 15t on the motor pinion?

Thanks

Sorry - I was really under the impression that both are available in the states as well.
I must admit that My experience with alternative ESCs and BECs is limited, so I fear I can not recommend an alternative except for the fact that the stock ESC is pretty good as well, and it is also capable of handling 8S, 10S and 12S setups if you ever wish to move away from the 6S setup.

I run my 550 with the stock pinion, which is a 14T. With my stock 1200Kv Motor this gives me an rpm range that fits nicely to my current skills. If you think about getting a higher power motor, then that one might have a lower Kv (like 1100 for example) and could thus use a larger pinion.
