SK540 Traditional Receiver cable
Ok, maybe I'm missing something in the stickies, but this is important for JR users who want to use the sk540 because using JR RAT01 satellites is not quite there yet (few weeks supposedly).
Anyway, the sk720 cable kit is clearly not compatible. The pic in the setup manual shows it very clearly. I haven't done my own cable yet but I'm off the the HS to get some JST ends, and all I need to do is pull the pins on a standard JST extension cable and add the new ends as specified. Oh, and on the receiver end, it should be going into the signal lead, correct? Red and black are power, and the white is the signal? I'm more or less writing this to get it right in my head. If I'm off someone please let me know. I'll post a pic later of the wire when it's done. Thanks |

So, what I'm finding is I got burned for buying what I thought was a good radio, that being a JR DMSS radio and DMSS receivers. Apparently all these flybarless units just want to work with spektrum satellites. But I'm stuck with what I have I'm already in several hundred dollars in JR equipment.
So with that said, since I can't find a single post that lays this out clearly, if you have a skookum SK540 and you want to do a traditional receiver connection, no satellites, this I believe is the cable you need to make. I made this the expensive way, buying a pre-made cable and being super careful to pull off the plugs. The bottom of the cable in the pic with the two plugs goes to the SK540, the other 3 go to the signal wire on the receiver, similiar to the align 3g (which provides a similar cable). I would like someone with far more experience than me to confirm this is the cable they are referring to in the diagram above. I am reluctant to try before I get a confirmation. Thanks |

You did what needed to be done.
And you did it correctly. I had also purchased the SK720 wires and did the fix myself.

Just a follow up. I bought a crimper for fun and the plugs and cable so I can make my own servo wires. It was worth the investment in the crimper.
Anyway, I've made the DMSS cable that is needed. If anyone needs a cable made let me know. I'll make them for "free", just pay for shipping and the parts. I've watched several crimping videos on these small plugs and they are coming out great. Or if anyone needs some information on what is needed to make your own leme know that as well. cheers |

Here are the tools and parts to make your own.
This is one of the view crimpers that will do those tiny connectors. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Then a wire stripper for tiny wires. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Here are the connectors http://www.hansenhobbies.com/product...0mm/150mm_1x3/ http://www.hansenhobbies.com/product...0mm/150mm_1x4/ The pins: http://www.hansenhobbies.com/product...50mm/150mm_ft/ Wire http://www.hansenhobbies.com/product...vo/sw_dx26_fu/ You need to get smaller wire. I bought some 20AWG wire like regular servo connectors use but that is way too big. You can ask those guys at Hansen http://www.hansenhobbies.com/products/connectors/150mm/ for recommended gauge. I guess maybe 24 or 26. Then here is how ya do it!
