Default G20 For cheap!

http://www.heli-world.com/detail.aspx?ID=9580

I'm super tempted to snag it and get a motor later...

or see how the .15 os gas motor pans out, but something tells me this platform will have a better power/weight than many if not all options the .15 will go into.

Note that that is the G20 with the HD head (from the old Predator). This head has blade grips designed for blades with 17mm blade roots and 5mm blade bolts. You will not find too many blades in the 620 to 640mm lengths that will have thick enough roots with proper spacers that can accommodate 5mm blade bolts.

That is probably why they are clearing them out at that price.

I see... Hmmm that does change things slightly.

Could a set of bushings in the blade grips and proper use of spacers make the popular sized blades work?

You simply need spacers for the blades.

And also 620mm or 640mm blades that use 5mm blade bolts instead of the standard 4mm ones, This can limit the selection of bades available that you can use with the head.

It seems to me that the HD blade grips use an odd size of 17mm spacing rather then an even number like 14mm or 16mm, so you have to be make sure you get some odd size spacers that can make up the 3mm difference while keeping your blades centered around the divot point of the feathering spindle.

Rotortech blades come with the spacers and 4mm bolt insert.

So from what I'm gathering.

1) 600-640mm blades with 5mm bolt holes are not very common.

2) there aren't bushings/adapters that can be used in the blade grips to safely use 4mm bolts.

I guess my next question is: Will the head from my swift nx 550 work safely on this helicopter?

There are bushings with rotortech blades.

Yes, but those bushing are for using them with 4mm bolts, the stock head on the g20 HD has 5mm bolts. hence my desire for some sort of adapter to use the grips with 4mm bolts and blads with 4mm bolt holes since there are many many more choices in that size.

I think Rotor Tech is one of your only blade choices for this head.Rotor Tech is a fine option as far as I am concerned .A easy fix would be to ask on here for a LT head for the G20 as all the flybarless heli kits for sometime also came with a LT flybar head.I would think that there should be a good number of brand new LT heads out there? As for the NX head I would say no.The grips, headblock ect is way heavier on the LT head plus it is 4mm flybar ect.The forces on the head with 640 blades ect would explode the NX head I am afraid. The other option is just buy the flybarless head ? Take care

Agreed on the quality of the rotortech blades, I'm just a habitual experimenter and like having options avaliable to me.

I'll definitely look into the LT head as an option if I feel the need to experiment with other blades.

Would I need to get anything else along with this should I want to go FBL (besides electronics of course).

No the head is all you really need. The flybarless kits come with the upgraded full metal swash but the stock swash I had on my first G20 was still nice and tight after 6 gallons through it.

Nice, I can pick both of those (kit and FBL head) up relatively cheap and let someone have the other head relatively cheap to help offset some of the costs.

I miss the sound of an IC engine, but nitro fuel costs are quickly going past ludicrous and into plaid. This Radikal seems like an incredibly fun bird at a great price point.
