Default Protos 500 Flybarless head options

I just acquired a 500 that I would like to convert to flybarless. Can other flybarless heads be used? I'm aware of the MSH51335 and RJX head. I'm curious if Align, Tarot, or other heads can be used. I have a Tarot fbl head on another heli and have been pleased with the durability. I'm sure someone has been down this road already, I just haven't found the thread yet.

Yes other heads can be used, but really, the stock low head is Awesome!!!
I just rebuilt form a 80ft inverted fall. Hit TH by accident. Just bent the spindle. Head completely fine.

Why would you take an awesome Heli and throw junk on the head. If you are dead set on DFC (which I personally don't like) I would look toward a compass head. Otherwise stock or rjx

Thanks for the responses so far. I appreciate the opinions however is there any issues with geometry when choosing a head like Compass, RJX, Tarot, Align, etc. I have a Tarot 500 FBL head that I installed on my beater Walkera V500 and have been really surprised with the durability. It's crashed 3 times, once inverted, and made out just fine. So again I'm more curious if there are issues with geometry. I will likely go with the MSH head but stock and parts are a little more challenging to find.

Experiencerc.com, msh-direct.com, and elektrorc.com all sell Protos parts.
I have been using experience rc since HeliDirect stopped stocking parts.

I've been flying mine with a RJX head for quite a while. It flies nice.

Thanks, I see a lot in stock at Experience! Besides a feathering shaft, is there anything else needed when converting?

Spacers on the feathering shaft between the head block & grips, long stand link balls, swash driver arms, the block the driver arms mount to. There might be more but that is the big stuff, also there is an upgrade kit that comes with everything needed.
Part # MSH51115

If you start with the low head (MSH51335) all you need is MSH51118, 51119, 51120.
If you have a stock length Protos the low head is not recommended and all you need is MSH51115 FBL upgrade kit.

I didn't even think of that because I'm still running stock length, but I will eventually stretch after getting carbon fiber frame

If you have an aftermarket head on hand, why not try it? Can't hurt and if your proficient with mechanical setup, low risk. The 51115 kit to convert the fb head is a no brainer, just did it myself. But, if you are planning stretch, I'd hold of and buy the low head and stretch kit.

Why is the low head(MSH51335) not recommended with a stock Protos???

It brings the main blades very close to hitting the tail rotor and probably will during some maneuvers.
