Default Fail Safe R6203SB, R6208SB

Guys I'm using both Futaba 6203SB and 6208SB for SBUS to my iKon flybarless controllers. I'm trying to implement fail safe control of other channels beside Throttle (#3). For some reason I can't get the fail safes to work, other than throttle.

What I want to do is control the Gear channel in fail safe. The gear channel is used to switch between flight modes. Flight mode 3 is set for self level. So basically I want SL active in the event of a failed signal. I'd rather it go in skids first over any other orientation. I've tried several times to set this up, it just wont work. I see no change in my iKon setup screen other than the throttle goes to zero.

I've reviewed the manuals for the RX's and the 8FGS and can't seem to find anything that says fail safe shouldn't work. CH7 mode is only limited to fail safe on throttle. I've tried MLT and MLT2 modes with no change.

Hopefully someone can help!

You have to go to the transmitter failsafe menu and set the values that you want. Default is to hold last value so you have to change the flight mode and throttle channels to the values that you want. It takes a few seconds for the transmitter to reprogram the new values in the receiver. After you program the new values and go back to home screen wait 30 seconds before you turn off the transmitter to see if the failsafe is doing what you want.

Rc Mike, thanks for the response. I've done what you have said. It doesn't change. Maybe I'll try reloading the v5 firmware to my TX.

Alright so turns out the fail safe is working. I hooked it up to a Robird G31 and observed the positions of the servos going to where I programmed in the Fail Safe menu. So apparently the iKon is filtering out the commands when fail safe occurs. It appears Futaba has a little bit of a delay before the commands are sent. This leads me to believe that the iKon goes into fail safe before the programmed f/s commands can be sent from the RX. So there must also be some kind of signal in the SBUS comms that indicates a broken connection, how else would the flybarless unit like an iKon or Vbar know of a link problem?

I sent an email to MSH the other night. I'm still waiting for a reply.

I think it is important to keep track of "failsafes".

The fbl controller will go to a failsafe value when it stops seeing servo updates from the receiver. That only happens for old 72MHz PPM receivers that don't have their own failsafes to exert if the rf link is lost.

These modern 2.4GHz receivers will always give out servo signals, even if the rf link is off---that servo signal is just whatever the receiver's version of failsafe.

The only way fora FBL controller to give failsafe is if the receiver is dead, or is it is browned out---AND the FBL controller is still working.

Just something to keep in mind. Too many smart things doing their own default settings can give confusing results.

I don't believe that is true regarding the MSH Brain/iKon with S-BUS. As I stated earlier iKon is making my fail safes null. Regardless of fail safe programming in my tx, the throttle channel always drops to zero when the tx is powered off. This is a function inherent to the Brain/iKon.

I never use FBL based failsafe and I only use Tx/Rx based failsafe. That’s a much easier way to do it. I don’t have an Ikon but can you just turn off the failsafe? Maybe you should contact the manufacturer and see what they recommend for modern radios that have built in failsafe.

This question should be sent "Otatiaro" on the MSH Brain forum,
He is the developer and should be able to either explain or correct function on Brain.

Would like to know answer as well,
