Kenneth,
Thanks for the correction, i think i'm sleepy while typing, hehe. So 2.6mm is the diameter of the wire(10awg it is), i'll check carefully maybe tomorrow, but i think i'll still fit into the bullets of the stock ESC. regards,

I just installed the ICE Lite 100 on my Protos.....it fit fine with no mods. I did the canopy mod though....cutting a hole for air flow. The ICE sees temps in the high 130's according to the data logger, but by touch it barely feels warm...? Ambient temp was around 75F.
I'm running the Scorpion 3026-880 with a 15T pinion. Goverened headspeed is set at 2600. Max headspeed allowed by Castle Link with the 15T pinion is only 2650, so I'm ordering a 16T & 17T pinion. I would like to be around 2800 headspeed. Anyone know what kind of temps these ICE controllers are safe to? I can't find any data on this.

And i suppose you're using the internal 5A switching BEC of the ESC, just wanna know how well it is. I ask cus i've heard lots of issues about the 10A CC BEC when it first came out, just hope it won't happen with the ICE series ESCs. Btw, i'll be getting the ICE Lite 100A too for my carbon Protos when RH has the stock in, just wondering how the temp will be if i don't cut a 'cooling' hole under the canopy(don't have the tool to cut a FG canopy, any suggestion?) And i'll be using the internal BEC and fly it at 100% flat throttle with fixed endpoints. regards,

Allowed headspeed
Castle Link asks for battery voltage, motor kv, and main shaft gearing info when you select a target RPM for the governor. It will then estimate the throttle that will be needed to operate at zero-pitch for that RPM.
If RPM is "too low" or "too high" it warns (insists) that it can't govern. In the first case it may be due to the risk of cooking the ESC, in the second case, it would be operating above 95.0% throttle and doesn't have enough headroom to govern effectively. Edit: too low seems to be 70% throttle.

You got it, CastleLink only complains about the governor settings. It won't stop you from using those settings, it simply makes the info button turn red and it will provide a fairly description of the issue when you click on it.
WIth fixed endpoints no issue, the ESC runs at whatever your throttle channel suggests. You can calibrate the throttle channel on your radio if you want to: Fixed-Endpoints will set zero-throttle and full-throttle points to fixed values so that the ESC does not have to ‘learn’ your transmitter. If you are using this mode, you will most likely want to change the EPA settings on your transmitter to allow full throttle resolution with the throttle stick. To do this, turn on your TX and set normal mode in the transmitter for a linear throttle curve (0,25,50,75,100). Bring your high side and low side endpoints on your throttle channel down to 25%, plug in the battery pack with the throttle stick at full (it won't start up), then bring your high endpoint back out towards (and sometimes past) 100% until you hear a single tone. Next, bring your throttle stick down to the bottom position and bring the endpoint out from 25% out towards (and possibly past) 100% until you hear the ESC arm. Unplug the battery pack, wait a few seconds, then plug back in and verify that the throttle is working properly.

Lucien Miller, owner of Scorpion, says the Scorpion 3026-880 should be run with a 14T and even a 13T on the Protos on InsideHeli #64 - Power System Corner with Lucien Miller. you'll hear chris discuss with him why. btw, if you run a 13T or 14T pinion on a Protos, you'll also need an adapter for them to mount on your motor. and you will need a shortened motor shaft for the stock MSH motor. i just dremeled my scorpion 3026-880's shaft to the dimensions shown at msh's site.
here's the link: Direct Download: InsideHeli_64_-_Power_System_Corner.mp3

FYI from Castle Creations on running the ICE lite 100 in the Protos
Link: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...57#post1534957 In short - Temp graph shown above is fine. I would personally mod the canopy for safe keepings of the "Lite" though.

What technique did you use for creating that very nice hole. I was going to take an easy way out and simply bust out the drill and make like 7 holes in a tight group.

husky, thanks a lot for sharing about the temp from CC, with that kind of temp tolerance, i'll be safe(and everyone else i think) with the Lite (mine will be 100A) in my Protos for sure.
Btw, those who might need the ICE (and Lite) 100A, RH has it in stock now(just ordered mine), be quick guys. regards,

Based on the temp info and known current draw of the Protos, it seems that the 75A Ice Lite is more then adequate for a 6s power system. I think that's the route I'll go.

I have a 100A non-lite coming. I'll post pics with my plastic frame. It fits the Phoenix 85HV with one side of the heatsink hacked off (unmodded stock frame). I measured the dimensions, and the 100A is smaller in everyway than the hacked 85HV.

Yah, the lite ESC's fit fine. The real bummer is that the standard version doesn't fit in the carbon frame.

How are you ICE users getting access to the lead so you can connect the CastleLink cable and download the data logs ?
One potential solution would be a kind of Y-lead that leaves the ESC connected to the Rx but allows connection to the PC interface cable without unplugging the throttle lead. I asked Castle about this and their response was a definite NO Quote:

I'm about to install the ICE Lite under the bat tray, just wanna ask what did you guys use to fix the ESC, stick it with foam tape or just use the supplied 0-ring from MSH?
regards,

I just used the O-rings to hold my Align75 and SportBEC under there. Works fine.
