2gb Micro SD
So, I plugged in my older 720 today and it GUI said that the firmware required updating. I clicked OK and it came back saying that the card didn't have enough space. So, I formatted the drive using the utility. As it was formatting the purple bar appeared saying SD Card Error.
I tried the utility format again and it failed. The computer sees the card as it should (see photo) but properties lists the used space as 32.0KB with 0 bytes of free space? I pulled the card from the 720 and scanned it using a card reader and it worked fine. I reformatted it using the computer and renamed it SK720. I installed it back into the 720 (correctly) and the same results appeared. I guess the card has failed? I am now having great difficulty finding a 2gb card that will work. Kingston has actually discontinued distribution of these cards. Does Skookum supply them? Art? Scotty

Similar issue
I too, plugged in my older 720 today and it GUI said that the firmware required updating. I clicked OK and it came back saying that the card didn't have enough space. So, I formatted the drive using the utility. As it was formatting the purple bar appeared saying SD Card Error.
I tried the utility format again and it failed. The computer showed the card as used space as 32.0KB with 0 bytes of free space? I pulled the card from the 720 and could not format it with the computer, it thinks it is a 32 kb size card and fails on format. I guess the card has failed? I could not find a 2 gig card so I tried bought a 4 gig card. It failed right away with the same error. I tried a known good 8 gig and it is hosed too now. After it was in the 720, windows will not format it either. If I find a 2 gig card will it work or is my SK720 killing these cards? By the way I have been using Skookums for years. I really like them. I have two 720s in camera ships. I have 3 Goblins each with a 540. This is the first issue I ran into. |

Also, per the Skookum wiki entry on SD cards (http://www.skookumrobotics.com/wiki/...in_Flash_Drive), the cards have two separate electrical interfaces. It is possible that the electrical interface on your 2 gig card that the SK720 blue uses is burnt out while the interface that the card reader on your computer uses is still functional. Georgi's suggestion to get a replacement from fleaBay is a good one. And finally, be very careful taking your SD card out of the SK720. Even a tiny scratch in the wrong place on the plastic coating will destroy a card. |

Fixed
Yup, a new 2gb Scandisk card fixed it all.
Everything is fine now
