It's sad to here about your situation
Please just make sure to state in your selling posts that all is great with your Soko Kit and that you don't sell it because you are unsatisfied with it...
I'm sure you will find a buyer

All the best

No worries here, I think the quality of items are so great, sometime I think twice about selling them. But if I do , I'll make sure they know the reason which has zero to do with either quality or functionality.

Believe it or not , I am one of the (I think) first guys who pulled the trigger to buy it first day when "Georgi" started the thread.

So keep up the ggod work, I think People here need to know about your tools , and I'll guaranty shipment will start...

Thanks again for creating Great tools.

For those that own the helical setup kit, how well does it level the swash?

For me it is the most accurate tool I have used so far. And the best thing is you don't have to dismount your rotorhead to level your swash!

Hello all.

I am attempting to use my new soko kit on a TREX 450 PRO v2 with the standard Align head (not DFC). I have mounted the soko helical in place of the head stop. When doing so I encountered a couple of issues. The supplied soko M1.6 bolt is too long. Well before it gets tight, it begins to bind against the feathering shaft in the head. As such I used the stock head stop bolt. My second issue is the size of the head on the stock bolt. It isn't big enough and wants to pull through the helical plastic. Easily remedied with a washer. Next I attempted to find the mainshaft vertical using the steps found on pages 17-18 of the v2.1 manual. On my heli I cannot seem to get 0 all the way around. When I zero the gauge in step 3 on page 17 and then turn the helical 180, it is not zero from the other direction. It seems the best I can do is split the difference such that the angle is the same in both directions. I had to do this again when I turned the unit 90 in step 4. I was able to find an angle that read the same when I turned the head 360. The manual says,
On a few models a flat and perpendicular mounting is not possible due to the head form. In such a case it is just important to firmly screw (even a slant) the Soko Helical on the rotor head.
Now follow the upper procedure but don’t aim for 0.0°. It is just important that the dis-played angle doesn’t change during a full turn. Once achieved the main shaft is in absolute vertical position.
This would appear to be the case for the 450 PRO v2 as the head is not machined flat on top and has a rounded surface.

What I want to know is if or how does this relative angle affect the swash leveling procedure? The swash leveling steps say to adjust the linkage until the unit reads 0, but how does this relate to the relative angle that had to be setup in the beginning?

I would also like to know if the head stop position is still the best position for setting absolute vertical in this case or should I be using the blade grip method?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi.

On all our 450 you have to use the M2 screw for the headstopper position. If the screw is too long just use more shims/washer. Unfortunately every head is different...

Once you set the main shaft in a verical position - doesn't matter which method you use - you can go on with the other section. The way you achieve the vertical main shaft - or any angle you used to do this - doesn't matter.
Use the absolute angle for all other steps.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. I went ahead with the assumption to use the absolute angle during the rest of the setup and everything went great.

Fortunately, redoing my head to try out the soko tool led me to find a loose feathering shaft bolt. I realized that my measurements would wobble and in fact it was the blade grip that was wobbling on the loose bolt. After each flight I always pull on the grips to look for play, but even in this case none was evident. Now I will not only pull on the grips, I will check for wobble.

In summary,

+1 to soko for the great tool and help.

+1 to tinkering and finding a loose bolt before it came apart in flight.

Sounds great draeh! Thank god you've found the loose bolt in time.
I'm glad that I could help and that you like my invention of course
Don't hesitate and tell you friends and heli-mates about it

Liking the tools!

After getting frustrated with the bits of paper method of leveling, I threw this together.

I had a set of legs for the couch intended for hardwood floors that I don't use, grabbed a piece of wood, drilled some holes and have a nice platform that adjusts by turning the legs.

I just painter tape the skid pipes to the platform and it is stable enough such that adjusting links and so forth doesn't get it out of level.

Good point, over engineered it. But did avoid having one lonely adjuster in the junk drawer

True. Three adjusters is better too. Minimum constraint design theory.

I revised it with 1 adjuster under the elevator, even easier to use now.

I had torn down 2 helis to do maintenance and wiring revisions and so used the soko on both to re set them up.

Great tool, and great manual.. I learned a lot, things that I now think should have been obvious, much like using 3 adjusters instead of 4.

TBur, I love this idea! And am going to implement it into my rotating test stand. And Soko, plan on buying one of your kits when I can afford it.
