Default 24v power supply

i notice some articles showing how connect 2 pc power supplies seem quite complicated more so because they are not the ones i'm using. i thought i could just create another 12v supply and connect it in series w/ banana plugs? yes?

Just a computer power supply may not carry the amps you need.
A server power supply does though like this Hewlett Packard DPS-600PB (12V, 47 Amps)
https://sites.google.com/site/tjingu...ts/diy-24v-47a

But yes connect the positive of one PS to the Negative of the other and run the other negative and positive to the charger. There is a pic at the bottom of this page.

blade ,slyster, i don't know why i need those huge PS, at most on my 308 i''ll be charging 2 6s and 6, 3s so thats

2.2amp x 22v = 48 x 2 , say 100 watts

plus

1.2amp x 12v =15 x 3 =43 x 2 = say 90 watts

so 200 watts . i can buy cheap 500 W PS locally , i'd rather not pay mark-up + ship on the larger server supplies.

where's my mistake ? thanks.

Connecting two in series can be done, but you have to be careful because some power supplies negative out, goes to earth on the metal case. When that is the case if the two touch you get a short.
The negative out on one supply has to be isolated off the case, to make it safe.

If you are charging at such low amperage why go 24v, just use a single 12v.

More amps let you charge faster, for bigger packs its essential, unless you have all day.

faster is cheaper. 3C charges gets it done in 13-15 mins.. now you can field charge and only need 2 packs per heli.

dunne, thats a good point about neg/ground both the PS i have fail the test, which makes me think the choices are quite limited

ok , i see how remove one ground connection to case.

AND i need good instructions on how to, most all are badly written, i've done a single before. Ie do i disconnect BOTH grounds?

ps , more research, this is a tricky business, i'll stick with one till i know what i'm doing
