Dudes: how does it work? Does it connect to PC for internet update, then upload to ESC? Since I have in the idea of a non-YGE/Kontronik ESC, I guess it will be HW/PunchRC for me. I don't need any more hassle factor than necessary for programming ESC.

As the name implies, it works two ways:
  1. As a standalone program box for the ESC. In this capacity, you get menus of settings rather than having to listen to beeps to program the ESC.
  2. As a USB interface between the computer and the ESC. You can either program the ESC with the computer, or update firmware.

I upgraded the firmware in my ESC this evening. As others have said, I had to reverse the motor direction. It's really weird that the motor phases are reversed with the update.

I was hoping to get a chance to try it out tomorrow, but the blasted wind just won't stop. It's 20-30mph every freaking day! I couldn't really tell much about potential soft start improvements when I spun the heli up on the bench while I was checking for vibrations.

did the update, also figure out usb will power the program box so you don't need to power it if you're using the computer.

Since it reset all my settings, should i do high/low throttle programming again?

Yesterday, I flew for the first time since I upgraded the firmware and, as others have reported, the initial jerk is gone (of the blades, not the pilot). Thank you!

Just updated my ESC, I used the Turnigy USB interface and updated to 1.07. I have selected very soft start and now there is no more kick, I like it very much. Thanks Mon T for finding this.
As everyone else has noted I had to swap two of the engine leads around as it was going in reverse after the upgrade.
If only the weather would improve i could go and fly the beast again. This 6HV is awesome.

They must have pulled the updates. I used Turnigy 1.62 and it would only update the ESC to ver. 1.05.

The only bad thing about the update is that the soft start is a little too slow for auto-rotation bailouts, the previous version was better for that but it's a compromise I guess. I wish the HW ESC had a bailout feature...

is that the Hobbywing programming box ?

You'll need this to do the upgrade

and not the earlier programming card .

You need to use the 1.62 Turnigy software to get the 1.07 choice for the 70HV:
