Default Using a watt meter to set up Throttle/Pitch

I'd like to know if any one out there has played with using a wattmeter to set up pitch/throttle curves. I'm rather new at this so I don't have a clue as to what would be the best way to proceed on this. Nonetheless, it stands to reason (and I just have to believe) that proper pitch/throttle curves would provide the maximum degree of power obtainable while at the same time minimizing current drain on the battery, thus increasing flight time and the enjoyment thereof. Conversely, I have to belive that improper pitch/throttle curves would waste energy and thereby shorten flight time and performance. The only way I can think of to do this would be to go to different throttles/pitch settings and emperically ascertain what combinations provide the best power for the least amount of energy input. I hope that's not confusing to anyone.
