Lightbulb Tail slider mod

I guess this 5 cents piece of pipe was to much to ask for in the Protos kit. Although Align has no problem including something similar with their kits...

People are cutting the bracket to protect the CF rod from wearing out by rubbing it but I think this is a more elegant solution if you have 10 minutes to spare.

Most of us just cut that rod guide off so its never a problem. If you think about it you're adding weight to your tail control rod and possibly slowing down your tail servo response time.

If you have to cut something then there is a problem. The weight is less than 1 gram and it slides over the plastic guide much better than the CF rod.

I still have one of those aluminum horizontal stabilizer support with a Teflon guide. Never put it on, since rubbing is never a good thing. I might try it one day...

The problem with stock guide is not about wearing out the rod. It's adding resistance and binding. Both the servo horn and tail lever arm run in an arc so the rod will touch the guide at some point of travel regardless. The best solution is to not run the guide at all. Stock CF pushrod is stiff enough so guide is not necessary. I run no guide in any of my helis from 130X (CF rod mod) to 300X to 450DFC (CF rod mod) to Protos stretched. Never have problem without support but always have better result with less chance of binding and therefore enhance precision tail pitch control.

Good point but I maintain my observation that the CF rod gets damaged fast at that spot! I wonder why MSH persists in selling that guide since everybody cuts it off. I like to use it because it feels safer during transport.

CF gets damaged fast because like I said about the arc movements. The easiest solution to prevent wear is to remove guide altogether. You can cut a piece of foam like the blade holder for transport. I transport my Stretched Protos all the time without case or heli bag or guide.
