artik,

I'm flying the T-500 with a V-bar setup and can tell you that you will save 70g from the parts you will remove from the head. The V-bar itself weighs around 40g like you mentioned.

Do a search on 5S in this sub forum - there are threads where ProTek RC 5S 4000, Kong Power 5S 3200 and MaxAmps 5S 4000 have been mentioned. The ProTeks are the least expensive. The Kong and ProTek are heavier than the MaxAmps.

Default Protek 5s 4000mah battery question

For the protek 5s 4000mah lipo do you need to lower the battery tray if so is there a video of that mod. also how many cycles could i get out of this battery. Thanks

I am also running a Vbar on mine, and it makes it a completely different heli....It flies like a big heli, and handles wind way better than my 600N....Autos are just slightly harder than my 600E, but I get plenty of hang time....Vbar is awesome....the conversion was a piece of cake too.....

Bob
I am just putting together my first heli, a Trex500 with stock motor. It was suggested to me to purchase the outrage xp25 6s 2500 (x4). I have spent a lot of time on the sim and will be in the early learning phase of hover and simple sport flight. what pinion would you suggest? I am sorry if this has been answered but I have been reading this and other threads for hours and can not find a simple setup for beginners or suggestion of battery for a noob who is trying to learn hover and simple flight (almost all posts seem to be for at least mild 3D). I at the final stage of purchasing batteries and pinion and would GREATLY appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I used the smallest pinion that came with the heli, I think it was a 12T?

As long as you are using at least 70% throttle at 50% stick for normal flight, you'll be good to go.

My alarm is set at 7 mins, which consumes about 60 to 80% of the 2500 mah 6s (Flight Power evolite v2).

Default how does this setup look?

Hey guys I'm about to pull the trigger on my T500 order and I wanted to run it by you guys to see if I am missing anything. ie. external BEC?

CF kit
stock motor
align 60g ESC
3x 9650 on cyclic
JR 770
DS3500G
evolite 2500 6s

My only hesitations right now are with the stock ESC and the tail servo. First off do I need and external BEC with the 60G?

And the tail servo I am just torn between the 3500 and the 3400. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You don't need a seperate BEC, the built in on the ESC is fine. I would suggest dropping the pricey EVO (I have 2 of them) and run the Align or Outrage 2500/2600's...I have those too

The Align packs hit hard and last a bit longer on flight times.

If I understand it correctly the 3500 replaces the 3400. I just haven't seen any replacement parts listed for the 3500 yet.

I'm kind of doubting what setup I'll run on my Trex. I have a charger that goes to 5s maximum. Should I invest in a 6s charger and 6s packs or can I get away with 5s and have the same kind of power/flighttime?

Depends on your style Laurens, 5s for smooth 3d / sport type flying is fine, but it's harder on the power system (you will be pulling more amps generally). If you prefer stick banging (hard 3d) then get the 6s setup.

I think my type of flying is closer to stickbanging then real smooth 3D.

8s 2100 mha packs scorpion 1210kv motor jazz esc and medusa bec
to
5s 4200 mha packt scorpion 1900kv motor standard esc no bec

why well flight time. and you have to get the scorpion motors what ever you run. and dont make you heli heavy

So, anyone tested the Outrage XP 6S 25C 3000mAh and 3300 mAh yet ?
I'm on the verge of ordering one of these two, I run my T-Rex 500 on 12T and do no 3D yet, so would 3300 give me more flight time ?
The weight of the Outrage XP 25C 3300 mAh is 62g heavier (announced at 480g on HeliDirect) than my stock Align 6S 2600 mAh (announced at 418g by Align) and dimensions are about the same, would the weight difference be significant ?

Costo,

I was recently at a funfly and was able to test some of the Outrage lipo packs. I have to give them two thumbs up as their performace was excellent. I can't tell you how many cycles you'll get with them but I can't imagine you'll get any less than the Align packs.

I was only able to test some 3S2100 packs for the little helis (my 500 was grounded) but I hit the jackpot and pulled the lucky straw and won a 6S3000 25C pack in a raffle. So I'll be able to give you a better report once I get my 500 back up in the air. The 3S2100 pack performed better than my EVO light pack. Guess it's not a fair comparison as the Outrage packs were 30C but they sure did pack a punch.

Many thanks to Outrage for providing lipos and the new Outrage heli to test.

I am flying the 2500 and the 3300 outrages. I am just doing simple circuits. I have the 12T pinion and stock motor esc. The 2500 is perfect balance and fit and gives 7:45 flight time with 1850mAh used. I definitely feel the weight of the 3300 when compared to the 2500. I did the cano-mod pushing the canopy forward as seen here on helifreak but the 3300 still barely fits and makes the heli a little nose heavy. To balance the TRex500 with the 3300 you need to also do the battery tray mod, lowering the tray so you can put the battery back toward the center of gravity. I am getting 10:00 flight time with it.

I use the 3300 for flight time and simple circuits and hover practice. If I was doing it again, I would get the 3000 instead. I think it would be a nice balance between weight and time for non-3D.

If you have a full size tail servo, you may balance better. I am using a S9257

Thanks for this very usefull feedback, I think I'll get the 3000 as you advised.
What I don't understand is HeliDirect states the 3300 to be even smaller than the 3000 although heavier.

Here's the comparison of the "official" numbers in size and weight :

Align 25C 6S 2600mAh : 33 x 43 x 143mm / 418g
Outrage XP 25C 6S 3000mAh : 39 x 44 x 138 / 435g
Outrage XP 25C 6S 3300mAh : 39 x 43 x 136 / 480g

So from that, if the data is right and your experience is conclusive, we can conclude the 45g between the 3.0Ah and 3.3Ah would make a big difference in balance, for approx 1.5 minutes of flight time ?
We could also conclude the tray mod would have to be done for the 3000mAh too.

Am I totally out of my mind or does this make sense ?
