Default Ok Old school question

My dad hasnt flown in 15 years and stil has got a couple of Futaba FG series FP-T7FG/K Tx's and i was wondering if you can switch modes and how hard it was to do it.

It seems like switching the gimbles would work except the trim winds up in the wrong spot, would this involve having to unsolder and re-solder the wires to the opposite gimbles? im not affraid of experimenting with it since i have 2 DX6i's already, just need all new servos for the planes which he is working on acquiring.

The old Tx's are kinda cool and my dad has a plane all set up and ready to fly just wants to start flying in mode 2 instead of mode 1 since its been so long since hes flown and he wants to fly the same mode i do so we can buddy box eachother between the planks and the helis.

Also is there a big difference between the ni-cad and ni-mh batteries and how they charge or what chargers you can use with them?
