Default XXtreme: Don't scratch my balls.

Catchy title, I know but I figured I post about a mistake I made so others do not do the same.

The other day I removed the ball-links from the servo-horn, and since the balls for the ball links on the XX is so big, my link plier did not fit, which I ignored first time (it was late)

Now, I by mistake scratched the ball without knowing, and that made the ball itself pretty much a ball-link resizer, 3 flights later the link is worn out.

So, use other means to get links off...

/Fredrik

I had the same issue with Synergy. They're using 5.5mm link balls and regular metal ball link pliers can easily damage the balls. Better to use either plastic ball link pliers or take a dremel then expand and smooth out the opening and edges on metal ones to minimize damage.

Do they have plastic jaws, or are they properly sized metalic ones?

I ended-up modifying a standard set. As the 800 market and larger balls take root, some inter-prizing business will make 'em probably.

I ended up modifying some as well but not before I hurt one ball. I polished the scratches out and then coated it with a bit of thin CA. This should work fine until I can get my hands on a new set of balls and links later this week.

OK, so it has been about two years now. Has a proper 6mm ball link tool available yet? Got the last barebones 800 from Ready Heli right after Xmas and will start building it very soon.

Default proper ball link pliers found

Hi I have finally found one that works. FBL ball link pliers. They work incredibly well and quality is second to none. They even have softened the edges on the teeth to minimize possible burring of the balls.

They wont work on smaller balls like my trex because the thickness of the teeth are too much and I cant get them in between the ball and swash or servo horns so bummer 1 tool wont work for all but I guess anything larger it should fit.

Tool wise the most expensive single hand tool I have ever bought but you definitely get what you pay for!!
