I have heard some nasty things about v.3 - brown outs. I can't verify this myself but have heard it from multiple sources...

It's working great. Rock solid all over the place. May be a good thing I'm just a sport flyer but you will notice a difference for sure.

Default Brownout

Brownout is only happening on smaller helis without external bec. Dino has said if you have a 550 or smaller using internal bec, the pots need to be turned down to the 10 o'clock position. Shouldn't be a problem on a 700 size machine as most if not all use some form of external bec or a separate battery. I am happy with 2.1 but plan on upgrading once I install my new tail shaft, auto drive, and main gear on my V3 DFC.

... on my 550 I was happy enough with 2.1 until I tried 3.0. Wow, what a difference. I was actually going to change it out for another fbl unit, no issue with the 3gx but just to see what another would be like.
Definitely wont be now.

So stable and locked. Align have really upped their game with this firmware upgrade, that's for sure

Dino,
With the improvements that are being talked about, would APS now, not be so much of a 'needed' addition for me, to 3GX 3.0. ??

Saving over $659.00 would certainly help pay for Real Flight 6.5 and a new 'puter to fly it on...

Thanks

Chas

APS is in no way needed. If you were going to spend that kind of money I'd get an HC3-SX, far better bailout type system assuming that's what you are after.

Hi blackout19,
That's a particularly much appreciated component of APS that interested me, indeed.
So the 3GX 3.0 is that good now?

I've been reading some about Heli-Command... but still not up to par on it.

From what I've been reading the 3gx is performing to a standard close to Beastx and co. But if you wanted a bailout feature the Align APS is not the way to go, the Helicommand unit is far better for that.

Chas, most who get the APS are getting it for the GPS features and are using it for Aerial Photography
Systems.
If you want bailout then helicommand HC3X is the only thing to get.
That being said I believe the very best bailout system around is your brain and thumbs, better to train them and save your money.

.....it can be far more expensive to "train them" though. The Hc3sx is cheap considering the price of crashing when learning. You're not saving your money really.

Just my opinion, although I would say that, as the HC saved my 700dfc from a complete rekit the other day, so paid for itself in one bailout

Steemo,
Yes, as in learning new music, practice makes perfect!
I am only considering what might save me some 'crash cash',,,
The value of staying mid-air opposed to the cost of ground-school. :-(

That said, practice, practice and yeah, practice some more, with much smaller heli's !!

Hi Bonkievan,
Perhaps simply learning to fly is the cheapest, and better investment long term.
But as stated, saving our birds even one crash expense, can nearly pay the price of admission.
As videos prove, the experts can/will hit the ground running, a time or two themselves.

I have much to consider and plenty to learn, in the mean while.

thanks

Chas

.....you are still learning to fly. Just reducing the likelyhood of learning to crash.....
