Default Suggestions for a electric AP setup

I am debating doing an electric setup for aerial photography. I figure it will not "scare the locals" as much as a gasser or glow does Plus, as an added bonus... less vibration and no smoke/residue.

A typical still shoot of a site could probably be complete in under 7 minutes but I was wondering if the electrics would be capable enough to pull up a few pounds of equipment and still be able to fly stable enough to take some pictures.

Anyone doing this or am I treading new ground here?

Dan,

The Joker is capable of hauling 5lbs rated and there are a few that are flying it fully loaded near 20lbs.... There are also a couple of people configuring the logo 14 for still shooting and there is an electric conversion voyager 50 that is also used. The most commonly used electric machine is the joker but there are others in service.

Thanks

Charles

yeh on the Hi end is the joker CX/maxi. Pull out your wallet for that caliber of Eheli. Very nice tho!

I am plannin a stretch of my Logo 20 to make it 60 sized 680mm blades, bionic 24 tail boom 8s4p lipos. A HCS 60 3x cam mount, it could handle mini DV vid and DSLR still cams easily and get good flight time.

Well Dan,
now that I have a nice capable Orbit charger, the Ehelis/ESC/motor, i think it would equal out to a nitro heli costs as I go.

I feel the cost isnt that outta line with a 90 nitro bird. And WAY more potential for performance with a E heli.

Is Joker what ya lookin at?

Yep the Joker is sweet! I have seen some AWESOME and quiet video from a few owners of the Joker. All the pilots seem to be happy with them and that says a lot.

Depending on the Tax refund this year I may have to pick one up. Guess I should get busy only 10 days left!!!

Joker rules for AP, My CX on 720s is 16lbs RTF and has hauled that weight for 400+ flights now. Havent had to replace a single part other then the tail slider bushing. Gotta love electric!

Hey Tabb,

Are you running those 720s with no modifications?

Did you have to add a bunch of weight to the front to get it to balance correctly with the long boom and 950's Tabb?

Guys, the super joker is a work in progress. I am not going to go to 950s initially but will be working my way up from 800s and playing with gearing and motor/batt setup to try and find that magical setup that will fly a 30lb AUW with moderate power reserve for the lowest watts possible.

In all probability the setup will be a 32-4 spinning 850s or so around 1200 to begin with. Depending on results I will change as neccesary. I would love to just try it on 950s at some point just to see how it works.

NRI is using some 850 MAH blades I saw with good results. I may give these a try initially.

The 950s reference was just made because that is the maximum blade size that the new tail boom will accomodate.

I will let you know when there is progress.

Definitely something for the "BAM", Tabb.

I'll talk to Steve about it.

Thanks Gary!

It will also probably need some 12s4p prolites

On a serious note the airframe is going together. I will get some pics soon and upload them.

The tailboom on this thing just looks ridiculous
