There is a rather complete build thread on here, which should be asticky maybe? Just search for 3D+ build.

Congrats on the purchase, it's a great bird. What are you putting in it?

There isnt much too worry about with the 3d+.. Its a very simple design that works well.

I can only think of 2 things to be aware of:

1. if your using a gov. Id suggest getting a backplate sensor if you dont have one already. The 3d+ fan is open and the bottom , so the gov. magnet is accessed via a small hole in the fan shroud. This makes mounting the traditional hall effect sensor difficult.. There is a mod which Down Low did recently which allows you to route and mount the hall effect sensor. Check the 3d Plus section for details.

2. The manual shows the upper engine mount upside down. The manual shows the indent/ridge pointing down to the ground, it needs to be mounted with the ridge facing up. (The FBL version manual might have been updated, to reflect this, im not sure - I have FB version).

Enjoy,,

I have both Vbar and BeastX. Both do the job well. Vbar has more tuning options available and might be overall a better system but for the money BeastX works really well and does not require a computer to set it up. Tuning in the field is very easy. Can't comment on SK720 but I am sure it's good too. Expensive though.

I use the SK720 ... the self-level feature is really nice, and the firmware now accommodates for a governor mode.

Default My 3D Plus!

I sold my Aurora to buy a Compass 3D Plus at IRCHA...this year! I have to wait for $$$ to build this beast. Funds are low and bills are high for now. However, Coronal is setting me up with a motor and muffler.

I also picked up the Beast X, at IRCHA, and had it programmed with V3 before I could even open the box! Coronal took it over to be programmed as soon as I show him all that I bought. I have most of the electronics for it now, just waiting to purchase servos. I bought some MA PEM nuts for it, read about this in a different thread.

I watch John and Eric Brandenberg fly their's all the time and can't wait until I have everything to start this project...hopefully before the snow fly's.

Why did you ditch the Aurora? Those are supposed to be nice. No?

My Aurora was a wonderful heli, but at the time parts were somewhat hard to come by and pricey. The only problem I had was the 3mm pin in the main gear broke, so I upgraded it to the 4mm pin. It slowly became my “flagship-hanger queen” heli. 92 flights (I believe) and no major crashes, a few hard landings.

The Aurora just didn’t “feel” right after flying FBL heli’s. And I would have to say the biggest reason for selling it… I found a heli that feels comfortable to me, one that fits my flying style, half FAI and half 3D. Times are changing…attitudes and companies are growing…technologies are increasing, so it’s only fair to grow with it. The other part that strikes a chord inside of us all…customer support! In an age where competition is everything, customer support has now become a major factor when deciding on a heli to buy.

However, I do want something smaller and fast! And that’s where the compass 3D Plus comes in. Like I said before, I’ve watched John and Eric fly theirs so much, I could almost feel myself flying it. So I want a smaller heli to practice on instead of my 90’s.

I hope that kind of answered your question.

Yeah Man. Understood. I love mine, I wish I knew how to tune the engine properly though. I still can't get it. I know the power is there as I had a couple of flights in certain weather conditions when the 3D+ just went ballistic on me and it was pure awesomeness. But since then I can't get that power back. But if you do want something fun, smaller than 90 and electric. Try that 6HV too. I'm sure you've seen it at IRCHA. That heli is soo much fun.

Yup. It's the one of the only downsides to nitro ... tuning ... well, the cleaning can be a pain sometimes too but ....
