Default Safety (vid) we can never be to safe .

hey guys ,just threw this together cause i dont see enough videos on safety. please feel free to add for new guys or even experienced pilots could learn from these as well..
hope i didnt bore ya guys to death here but i do see so many pilots that are an accident waiting to happen , if this helped just one person then im glad i did it. Enjoy. The guy i talked about at the end getting killed, i forgot to mention that we dont want any of our families to go through what these people are going through..

Not bad Greg!

Spotters are always helpful as well to warn the pilot of approaching danger...kids, cars, idiot adults or whatever else happens to wander into the kill zone.

Good job

Important when you are carrying your bird to the takeoff area and your TX may be dangling on a strap around your neck be sure to have throttle hold engaged in case the stick gets moved accidentally.

Excellent video whoanelly, hopefully it will make us think a bit more about safety. I didn't know the tip about hovering with the tail slightly off-line, and I've also got into the bad habit of flying below head-height while I'm learning, so I'll have to address that. What sort of distance should we be hovering our heli's at?

As the hobby becomes more mainstream, the manufacturers should be thinking about this too. I feel most vulnerable when I'm working on the heli setup, it's easy to forget throttle-hold or to knock the collective, and I'd like a simple safety switch on the motor. I also wish there were tethers or hooks to hold onto the blades, the thought of one becoming a projectile is quite scary. Ideally I think RTF heli's should have an auto-stabilization system too.

Agree with the suggestion to get insurance cover too, we've got the equivalent in the UK via the BMFA, which I've subscribed to.

Nice vid. I agree with the sticky idea.

Not to be picky but I always thought AMA meant Academy of Model Aeronautics.

We do need a safety thread sticky in every section.
Big +1

I've seen too many youtube vids of people doing unbelievably bone-headed moves.

X2. I have also seen videos of hotstarts with nitros, where people don't even bother holding the head while igniting the engine. Definately a sticky on this forum at least.

There is also the topic of LiPo batteries charging. I have seen many people to charge these bombs even on the sofa!!

Just to inform, wooden blades take up to 2800 RPM.

Very nice video overall and good to have here

ya i agree there needs to be more info on the Lipos , guys have to know whats a safe charge rate . normally 1C .. if you dont know what this means heres an example.

2200MAH at 1C = 2.2 AMPs...
1800 MAH at 1C = 1.8 AMPs.

you experts out there please keep adding to this , i think its great reading for beginners, lets keep em safe.the video was just a starter was hopeing guys would add more tips here..

Might be getting a bit technical but explaining how to set a failsafe when binding and what happens if it is set wrong. Have read about a few close calls and have almost had one get away from me when setup wrong.

When reading this I just went to check bolt tightness on the eflite woodies. I dont want a blade to come off and cause a crash or in the worst case cut my head....

from my experience as long as the box isnt air tight ..but i also dont know how thick of metal your talking here. it should contain the fire but if its air tight it could be a Bomb...check out this thread theres some good stuff in here..good luck to you.
