Default Which Motor for my E7?

I ran the Align 750mx in my standard e7 and it was a good motor. Good power, low temps and easy on the electronics. I swapped to the new Eflite 700x motor and it is flying even better. I ran 2200rpms with the 750mx but the Eflite motor is doing very well at 2000 running throttle curves and a little throttle/cyclic mixing. I run a newer style Hacker 470 in my Trex 700 at 2000 as well and I really enjoy the way it flies. I think the large amounts of torque from these motors is what makes them fly so well despite the lower headspeed.

I recently picked up an e7 SE airframe. I want to set this up as a my flagship heli. I have a Castle 120HV, 160HV or PowerJive 120HV I can use in this heli. I haven't decided which servos yet but they will be high voltage with a seperate power supply. The motors I am considering are the Scorpion 4525-520, KDE v3 or the Scorpion Nick Maxwell motor. I will be flying 12s 5000s and would like a solid 4 mins of 3d flight without killing my packs. Blades are 696 Rails. I don't mind running a lower or higher headspeed but I would like to keep it somewhere between 2000 and 2200.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there other motors I should be considering?

Hey man! Long time no see!

A couple of things on the E7se. The main gear ratio is different than your standard E7. the E7se is geared for around 1950-2050 rpm on the head. With a 520kv motor and the supplied 12t pinion 2050 is plenty. I personally find that 1950 is in the grunt of the motor better and with the faster 4.9:1 tail ratio on the E7se, you can use 106 tail blades and the tail holds beaufitully.

As for which motor you run, that's preference. I have flown the frame on all you listed. I lean more toward the 4525-520. That is, in my opinion, the perfect motor for this heli.

It will run 2200, not like it will shake apart or anything but you will just be wasting battery time.

As Chris mentioned I also recommend the scorpion ultimate motor (520kv). Just a ton of torque and you are able to run lower headspeeds, mainly due to the new gearing. Before I figured out the esc I'm using I accidentally ran the headspeed at an insane 2400+! I knew it was screaming for some reason, but it still flew fine just felt insanely too fast, which would be good for a speed helicopter. Now that my top headspeed is around 2150, I'm getting incredible flight times. Using 3850 packs I got a 5:30 flight at 1950 headspeed. I've flown 3700 packs at 2150 HS and got around 4:30 flights with plenty left in the pack. In other words, you don't have to run 5000 packs, as the extra weight might eat up some of the mah.
Also, if you are still looking for servos I highly recommend the new BK full size servo and the new Torq tail servo. Best servos I have used so far.

Thanks for the advice. I am currently running 8717s on the e7 & Trex but I have a set of RJX on my e5. The RJX have been flying great so far although I don't have a lot of time on them, only a 50 flights or so. If I get another set of this style I will probably go for the BKs. It is a tough choice. The 8717s work so well, it is hard to beat them. I have 4 sets that have I been running for years and they are still flying extremely well without any issues. They were pricey but they have held up great over the years.

Back to the motor... I was leaning towards the 4525 Scorpion as well. My e7SE was originally another standard e7 that was converted to an SE with everything from the new version except the gearing (& frame sides). The gearing is still the same as the original e7. Would this change your mind for the motor or KV? Would it be worth picking up a new style main gear? Which ESC would you use? If I use the Kontronic, should I use the internal gov? I have a Vbar Silverline for the heli so I can use the Vbar gov if it would work better although I have no experience with it. I also really like how my current e7 is flying on throttle curves so I am open to that as well.

Well, I crashed my e7 yesterday. One of my tail links on my e5 split a few flights later too. Does anyone know if the e5 and e7 tail sliders are interchangeable? I have a spare tail slider for my e7 and it looks the same as my e5 slider. Anyways, not a great day for my Synergys Oddly enough my Trex 550 and 700 flew perfect. I still love the Synergys and don't think the Align helis are better quality, it was just funny that my flagship helis were down while my cheap Aligns were flying hard all day.

The one thing that did impress me was the e7 after the crash. The tail link came out about 100 feet up in the middle of a flip and the heli went wild. I hit hold and the heli fell to the ground. I managed to get it upright but it still hit hard enough to bend the head links, broke the tail fin, and some other small parts. Very impressive for such a hard fall. 1st crash with this heli in the 2 years I have owned it and my crash cost will be under 100 bucks (besides blades). My Trex 450 cost more than that when a little crash destroyed the servos (along with the usual parts).

For the motor in my new e7SE, I went ahead and ordered the Scorpion 4525. I have a spare set of 8717s and after seeing how well another set held up in my crash yesterday, I will probably run them in the SE too. What do you guys think about the new main gear? Is it worth swapping to the new gear ratio? Any thoughts on the Jive gov vs Vbar gov? I only run gov mode in one other heli (Ice 120 in Trex 700) so any advice is appreciated.

Sorry about the crash, it sucks for sure. How did you crash it and what broke?

Let us know how the Xnova motor does and how it compares to others. I don't know anyone running one but the specs look good.

Ill bet that 4535 is a monster! i did look at aircapitol first but i believe the 4530 525 was not in stock. found demonaero from xnova dealer list. who is peak?

Im not sure why i crashed yet. im the first to admit when i put one in all on my own, but i had some sort of failure. i suspect the esc shut down. I was flying 3d close the the ground, had the heli inverted, pumped it towards the ground and when i went to catch with negative it had no power to punch out, it just sort of crumpled over instead of responding as i expected. I need to check the castle log and vbar log and see if i can solve the mystery.

ive been running a castle 120 and align motorfor a while and decided that i love this heli so much i wanted to go with the high end motor/esc. cant wait to try out the new equipment

Got the motor, but the crash on my other e7 set me back. No maiden yet, I am hoping to get it flying in the next few weeks. Anybody else try the motors they mentioned? The Xnova? The 4535? I am wondering if I will regret going with the smaller motor Now that I have it installed, the size is very similar to the Eflite motor in my other e7 so I am not expecting a drastic difference in overall power. The Eflite motor is a beast with a ton of power so that is ok, however, maybe I should have gone the extra mile with a 4530 or 4535 size motor for a real monster setup in the new heli. I am very curious about flight times with those bigger motors in an average 3d flight.

I don't have any experience with the eflite motor, but the 4525 is a hoss. Scorpion tends to pack a lot of power into a relatively small package, and coupled with the jive gov I'd be very surprised if it doesn't crush that eflite motor. I don't think you will be disappointed.
