Default skids

The landing gear on my mx450 has alot of spring to it. I pushed them down almost to where the heli was touching the ground and they didn't break.
Do you really want landing gear that is so strong that it won't absorb any energy from a hard landing or crash?
I can understand not wanting the landing gear to break, but what will break if the landing gear doesn't?
