Radikal G20 has arrived!!
One large box and two smaller boxes arrived today. Hmm, I wander what it could be?? Yep my Radikal G20 arrived much sooner than I had expected. I also recieved parts of my order from HeliProz. A few items had to be back ordered. No worries, they aren't needed until I get to the electronics and final set up. I have to say though, that I was hoping the instructions would include basic radio setup. I don't see any major issues with the mechanical set up. It's the radio set up that I'll need some help with. This is going to be fun!

The radio set-up part of the instructions is minimal as it would be difficult to do so for every radio and servo on the market.
But I am sure that if you need any help with it you can ask us here and someone will probably have the answer for you.

I need to hold off on getting started. I have a very important promotion test coming up and my wife was very kind to remind me that studying for this promotion is more important that building my helicopter. So, what I am going to do is study when I'm at work, study when I'm at home. I'll put in a few hours on the weekends of studying and building. Old man has to pay for his toys!
So this build is goint to be slow getting started. Thank you to everyone offering to answer my questions. Ted

I took a break from studying Saturday and gave myself a few hours to work on the G20 build.
While I was putting the frame together that I discovered blue Loc-Tite tastes sweet and CA doesn't taste very good at all. I'm taking a break from the build on Sunday, but would like a few hours on Monday (gotta love 3-day weekends) to work on installing the drive gears, then I'll tighten up the motor mounts, install the carb and motor sensors. Next weekend, I'd like to install the servose and electronics. I did find two blade grip bearings that felt gritty/notchy. I made contact with Century and they were quick to respond back. New bearings should be on their way in a few days.

That looks to be coming along very nicely Ted.
Well done indeed....sometimes a short break from studying can help.

Ok. I will be finishing up the tail and installing the servos and electronics this weekend. For those of you who have already built and set up a Radikal G20, could you please provide some pictures and suggestions on electronics placement and routing wires?
Thank you.

a few minor hick-ups
Ok, this is what I get for sneaking into my workshop and working on my heli when I was supposed to be studying. While putting the tail case together I crushed one of the tail shaft bearing races. ARGH! So I placed an order for 2 , just in case. I finished the transmission up on the boom and installed the servos. Did anyone get the metal servo arm for the throttle (listed in the manual)? I can't find mine. If the metal servo arm comes with the kit, where was it bagged? Once I get bearings for the tail case and put it all together, I'll be ready to mount up the boom. Before I do that, I need to figure out what I'm going to do with the wiring. I've already covered the wiring with the FMP braided wiring covers. Now I'm just waiting for parts. Wait a minute Mister Postman.........

I've figured out the electronics placement and wiring for the EI unit. My next task will be routing the servo wires and placement of the RX and Micro Beast.
Tonight, I study! Ted

I'll post some more pictures later, but I've mounted the tail boom. The only thing that comes to mind is WOW!
I've been figuring out how and where I'm going to mount the RX and Micro Beast. Maybe by this weekend I'll have the components mounted and the wires run. Ted

I am waiting on a few parts to complete the build (bearings and voltage regulator and such), so I decided to test fit the RX and Micro beast to the Radikal today. I'm leaning towards mounting the RX and Micro Beast at the rear of the heli. I've read that by placing a piece of metal between two 2-sided pieces of foam tape and mounting the RX and Gyro to this will greatly reduce the vibrations reaching the the RX and Gyro. I'll have to acquire some thin metal and cut it to size, but since I'm waiting for parts to arrive, I've got some time to ask around.

Tail Servo Question:
Ok, when connecting the servo ball to the servo arm does it go in the 2nd highest hole in the 12 o'clock position? I ask this because when I rotate the servo arm to the 3 o'clock position, fully extending the connecting rod everything is fine. When I attempt to rotate the servo arm to the 9 o'clock position the connecting rod make contact with one of the servo arms preventing it from fully retracting. I'm not able to get the full 90 degrees of movement. Do I cut off the offending servo arm?? I know my terminology is incorrect, but my heart is in the right place. Ted

Your servo will not need anywhere near that 180 degree of movement. It will only use about 60 degrees of movement (30 degrees each side of center) so there should be no problem.

I've been working to keep the wiring as clean and simple to work with since day one. I figureded, if it works, I'd have everything for the EI unit at the front of the heli and everything RX related at the back.
This is what I've come up so far with the EI wiring. If/when I want to get to the wires or plugs, I clip the black wire ties and it'll all drop down. I've connected the battery meter to the charge port on the on/off switch. Even though the on/off switch has a charge port, I'm not sure how comfortable I am with charging the pack on the heli. If I burn up a pack while charging the battery out of the heli all I lose is a pack. If I burn up a pack while charging the pack still in the heli, I'll lose a lot more. At least that's the mind set I'm going with. I wish the spark plug wire had a straight on connection. Then I'd run the plug wire along the bottom tray right back to the motor.

There have been some comments made with concern about vibrations and my mounting the Micro Beast on the side frame. From looking at where is motor is, I would think that there would be more vibrations at the front trays since they are so close to the motor. The rear trays appear to be further away from the motor, but I’m wondering if the transmission for the tail drive could be adding to the vibrations at the rear of the heli.
Just to be clear, I haven’t fired the motor up yet, so I have no idea what the vibrations are going to be like. Also, I have not hard mounted any of the electronics yet. They are simply held in place by Velcro or wire ties for trial fittings. Once I determine where I want to mount the electronics I will then apply the foam rubber tape to the RX and Micro Beast and mount them. I will still use Velcro and wire ties just as a back up to keep everything in its place. On another note. A member from another forum voiced some concern about my having wires too close to the spark plug and spark plug wire. The wires that are close to the plug and plug wire are the power wire coming from the battery, going to the on/off switch and then to the EI unit. Do I need to be concerned with possible interference from the plug or plug wire? Thank you for all your comments and help so far. I'm getting excited about receiving my next batch of parts so I can begin setting up and programing the TX/RX. Ted

Time for the weekly photo updates!
Since I've been waiting for several parts I've basically been sitting in my "man-cave" staring at the Radikal ( my wife looks at me and shakes her head), thinking of ways to make the wiring better/cleaner looking. Let me clarify. I'm not waiting due to anything the vendors have or have not done. I live on an island 3/4s between New York and Portugal. It can take several weeks to over a month for mail to get here. With a little over a week to think about it, I've decided to put the RX on the side frame where the Micro Beast was located and the Micro Beast where the RX was located. I've started trial-fitting wires to the RX and figuring out where to route the wires. I've also installed the fuel lines, fuel filter and fuel cut-off clips. I need to find a plug to put in the fuel inlet line and I'm waiting for the Century air filter to arrive. Other than that, I'm done with the fuel system. For the most part, all that is left is to set up the radio and fine tune the linkages and tune the motor.

Ok. If the lipo pack voltage is 7.4v, the voltage range on my RX is 3.5v to 9.6v and the volatage range for the Micro Beast is 3.5v to 8.5v, do I need a voltage regulator??
I'm running out of space on my Radikal to put things. About the only option I can come up with is to mount the voltage regulator to the side frame just below the RX. What do you think?? Ted
