Default Anyone every try a 4S battery?

I did my first auto yesterday as a result of my drive belt snapping and last night when I was looking at the manual for part numbers, I noticed that they say you can fly the protos on 4S.

Anyone actually do it? What's it like? Flight times, etc....

Am I right to conclude that a lower cell battery will result in lower headspeed?

If you keep the gearing the same it will give you lower headspeed yes. Also your amp dray will increase as the volts go down, a thing to be mindfull of if you run a marginal esc.

edit: For information I've run both 6s and 5s on the same gearing for a year. Only run 6s now so I can keep just one pack type

I'm planning to run it on 5S 3700mAh on 18T pinion as proposed in the manual... will update you on how it is doing.

PS: It's just because I already have 6 of those pack It's a way of delaying the price of 6S pack for the price of a pinion

Frebou, depending on the motor you have 18T and 5s will give a spirited performance to say the least...I ran mine on 15t and 14t, both have enough omph for fast aeros and goofing around. My first runup was on 18t and 6s, result was unplanned 3d and a good scare.

Good to know I'll have to check up how much amps it draws too

What I'm wondering... is running a 15T or 14T pinion with a 4S battery and alternative to running a 12T or 13T pinion on 6S?

The other thing - shouldn't the outrunner be running fast to keep it cool? Reducing HS with the battery could lead to excessive motor wear?

If you have to buy new lipos for your Protos, I would advice to go for 6s.
much more versatile and inexpensive lipos packs.
with 12T at 2200 rpm, you get a nice gentle bird with long flight times, and when you want to get a mini rocket, just swap your pinion with 15T. and your 6s lipos will still do a great job.

Nice indeed! not sure I would have been in this gym at this time a bit too crazy for me

Btw, had my first 5 flight this morning with my 5S 3700 protos on a 18T pinion, 2800 RPM and plenty of power. It draw some amps tough! I'll try with the stock 15T pinion and intrapolate the rpm to see if I order a 16t or a 17t...
