Me for one I just look at where the engine is supposed to produce best power and work out head speed according to gear ratio.
For a RL53 that works out to 2000. |

2050 for smack (just a tad above optimum RPM)
1900 range otherwise. Helps a little on fuel mileage if all I'm doing it stunt auto practice.

After a couple of weeks on this setup, I am finding that although the RL53 seems to do very well, it prefers to stick with running richer for now. Only drawback is I think it's a struggle to hold 13 pitch in agressive flying. Just as I start to get it lean enough to handle the 13 pitch, it says no more and starts to get hot and fall off a bit. I took it out to inspect Sunday evening, and found everything fine, except for a burnt looking spot on the piston crown. Got too hot at some point. Keeping it cooler now, and may back the pitch out of it for now, and live with it until I can't take it any longer...at which point, I will simply install the YS 60sr and try to tame the beast again. Singificant power difference. It can hold 13.5 pitch like no tomorrow without flying more than 2000 hs. Just a snarly, torquey little beastie!
