Default 6s or 5s

I have just finished as Trex 500. Should I be using 5s or 6s packs if I am not doing 3D but mostly sport flying? I've only been flying helis for about 5 months but I've flown planes for years.

Do I plan to fly 3D? Yes and no. I want to get into F3A style but at the same time I would like to fly learn some 3D manuevers - just not strictly 3D.

I like my 500 on 5S 3300 mah packs. 15 tooth penion
In this heat! I fly 6 min and packs stays about 120 deg.
I'm putting 2100 mah back in.
I'll fly 7 min in cooler weather.

I think 6S packs are better and more enjoyable.

on the stock motor 5S does get very hot (the motor that is). On scorpion motors there is little to choose between 5S & 6S, both are awesome.

I run 6s packs and love the power. I get 6 mins now and put back in just under 1700 mah. I could probably push it a little more but I like to fiddle around when the timer goes off. I am using the 6S 2500 25C outrage packs and they have been great so far with mostly FF and a few stall turns. I am working up to loops, flips and rolls. I can do them on my 450, but if I crash the 500 I will have to cry. Maybe in another month or two I will try it. Good luck.

I vote 6s. Higher voltage (to a point) is better due to lower currents (less parasitic losses - less bog). 6s is convenient because it's a multiple of a common pack. The 3s 2200mah 450 pack.

I run Outrage 6 cell 2500mAh packs in my 500. I get a solid 7 to 7 1/2 minutes and putting in between 72-75%
